I begin this edition of Michigan Travel Tips with news related to Michigan. On Monday, December 13, 2010, the first Volts (electric cars) were shipped to the West Coast to be sold, and in the near future, Volts will come to Michigan to be sold. On Friday, December 17, 2010, the federal government reported new unemployment rates (which would probably be revised upward a bit later, which is standard business), and the federal government noted that the regular unemployment rate in Michigan was at least 12.4 percent, which was the second highest rate of the states in the country. On December 21, 2010, news outlets were reporting how the census figures were going to lead to new U.S. Representatives numbers in some states, and Michigan, which had lost population, was going to lose one seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, and, by the way, Michigan was the only state to lose population. On Thursday, December 23, 2010, the GM Powertrain plant (at Willow Run, Michigan), which had been used to make cars, was closed down; in the 1940s, when the plant had been owned by Ford Motor Company, the plant had been used to make the famous B-24 Liberator bombers, and, today, there is a museum at Willow Run Airport, which I have talked about in the past, that focuses on the history of the plant and the B-24, and it is the Yankee Air Museum (and more about the closing of the plant can been seen in my document entitled T.H.A.T. #81, which can be reached by using this link: T.H.A.T. #81). And that is some of news you should know.
Advertisement: The commercial in this edition of Michigan Travel Tips urges you to get a copy of Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto, which is a book written by Mark R. Levin. This book will help you understand better what Barack Obama is--a man who is purposely hurting the country, even though he is the president of the country--but the book is really about enslavers--politicians--who do not believe in the values of The U.S. Constitution and how The U.S. Constitution is designed to limit the power of the government, especially a dictatorship, over the individual (the citizen). Remember: In the United States of America, it is the individuals who own the government and not the government that owns the citizens, the latter of which is what Barack Obama wants and is pushing for.
On Thursday, December 9, 2010, I ended up at a place that I had never been to before--the Royal Oak Historical Museum--and I ended up there because a friend had to go there to donate a big glass light fixture--shaped like an acorn--that had been a portion of a local school for decades. The museum is located in an old fire station, which was built in 1927, was dedicated in 1928, and was used from 1928 to 1983. From now through March 19, 2010, the museum exhibit area, which is the first floor, where the fire engines and such had been for years, is a World War II exhibit. For one, there is a World War II jeep on display, and sitting on the passenger seat is a portable radio-telephone unit. There are several dozen model planes on display, most of which are in a showcase at the entrance. A number of mannequins are dressed up in World War II uniforms, some of which are men and some of which are women. There are many little items, from a civil-defense helmet to badges. Not everything on display is related to World War II; for instance, there is a collection of police badges. The museum has a small library, set up in a small room, and within it are, for instance, a small collection of books. When I visited the library, I found an ultrahigh frequency radio receiver--a shortwave radio--and it was a unit from Hallicrafters Co. of Chicago, Illinois, and the model number was Model S-36. This museum, which has no official admission charge, is open from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays and on the second and fourth Sundays of a month. Of course, if any of those days are holidays, you should expect it to be closed. I learned from staffers that the next main exhibit, which will be in place from March 2011 to September 2011, will be a Civil War-themed exhibit.
Now, I have to make an announcement. The building for Royal Oak Historical Museum is a former fire station, but it has no "fire poles" set up--it had two set up for years, set up between the first floor and the second floor. I saw the two poles, and they are lying down out of the way. I learned staffers of the msueum are thinking about cleaning and polishing one pole and setting it up as a display, but it will not be set up so that is could used or tried by visistors (because OSHA will not allow that). Staffers have plans to cut up the other pole and use pieces of it to make awards. I dislike that idea! If you know a person who is associated with a museum that exists in a former fire station and the person is looking for a former fire pole, you should tell the person to contact the Royal Oak Historical Museum. I expect some former fire stations that are now museums must certainly be missing a fire pole or all the fire poles, and it would please the staffers of the museum to get a pole. It seems very likely to me the Royal Oak Historical Museum would not give up the pole for free, of course. Surely, something could be worked out. It would be a shame to have a real fire pole cut up when it could be used somewhere in the country (even if the place that gets it will not have a pole that is original to the place). For information about contacting the staffers of the Royal Oak Historical Museum, you could visit the Web site for the entity.
Please pass the information about the pole around!
On Sunday, January 9, 2011, the Detroit Free Press published a story entitled "Majestic Kalamazoo B&B's future uncertain" (Kalamazoo Gazette. "Majestic Kalamazoo B&B's future uncertain." Detroit Free Press, 9 January 2011, p. 14A.). The focus of the story was a bed-and-breakfast place known as Henderson Castle (which is located at Kalamazoo of Kalamazoo County in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan), and it is place that I knew nothing about, which is not surprising to me, since bed-and-breakfast places are not highlighted regularly in editions of Michigan Travel Tips, since I focus on museums, parks, and other tourist attractions (in the past, I have talked about a few bed-and-breakfast places in editions of Michigan Travel Tips). The article, which noted that the place was having economic difficulties, had a photograph of Henderson Castle attached to it, and when I saw the photograph, I thought it would be a perfect place to make into a bed-and-breakfast place with a horror castle theme, like the place that I use as a setting in my fictional story called An Erotic Tale at Horror Castle, which is available at the Web site for The Hologlobe Press. Look for the story about Henderson Castle in the Detroit Free Press or look for a photograph of Henderson Castle, and image it is a bed-and-breakfast place with a horror theme--dark and spooky (it could be filled with all types of trick devises and special effects, and it should be made like a serious place and not like the fun place known as Erebus Haunted House, which is located at Pontiac (in Oakland County of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan) and is open, basically, only in October for Halloween time. To see, An Erotic Tale at Horror Castle, you can use this link: Castle. [Erebus Haunted House is contained in a building that looks like an old small factory or warehouse, and Erebus Haunted House is used to produce scenes for the television series called Wolfman Mac's Chiller Drive-In, which is shown on the Retro Television Network, such as, in Detroit, at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday on the second subchannel of WXYZ-TV. In the past, I have talked about Wolfman Mac or Wolfman Mac's Chiller Drive-In in editions of T.H.A.T., which is my monthly publication that focuses on television, and, for example, you should see T.H.A.T. #48, which can be reached by using this T.H.A.T. #48 link, and T.H.A.T. #68, which can be reached by using this T.H.A.T. #68 link.]
Promotional announcement: The Landmark Legal Foundation is made up of lawyers, such as Mark R. Levin (of The Mark Levin Show, a nationally syndicated radio show), who fight in court cases against those who do not uphold The U.S. Constitution and the rule of law for the country, and the Landmark Legal Foundation fights for the rights of the individual and against Marxists, communists, and the like. In this day and age when Barack Obama, who I am convinced has a truly highly ill mind, is going against the rules of the country while pursuing a goal--I believe--to hurt the country and remake it or destroy it, I believe the Landmark Legal Foundation needs your help desperately; for example, retired lawyers who want to protect the country should consider donating time to helping the Landmark Legal Foundation. I urge you to avoid making any donations to entities that promote manmade global warming or climate change and make a donation to the Landmark Legal Foundation instead (by the way, you should look into supporting the Heritage Foundation).
I close this edition of Michigan Travel Tips with information that should be known by every person in Michigan and every person in each of the other forty-nine states that make up the United States of America, and it is information that a person should pass along to others while traveling in Michigan or in any of the other states. Around January 5, 2010, people around the country were learning truthful information about how many persons in the country had trouble getting health-care insurance in the country because they had pre-existing medical conditions around the time the now-exiting bad law called the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 was being made. Democrats, such as Barack Obama, were giving the impression that many, many persons in the country could not get medical insurance because of pre-existing medical conditions while the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was being constructed, and they pressed the issue that that was why the federal government had to pass the bill into law--quickly--and, in fact, I bet many Americans thought the millions of persons could not get insurance. Around the time the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 was being made, the country had a population of about 310,000,000 persons (or 310-million persons), and it has now been shown, around that time, that somewhere around only 8,000 persons in the country could not get health-care insurance because of pre-existing medical conditions. That means Barack Obama pushed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 on the country and pushed to make the health-care system in the country, in essence, a government-run health-care system (a government monopoly system), which is a bad idea, because 8,000 persons of 310,000,000 persons were having trouble getting health-care insurance. Yes, in essence, the country is on the way to having a communist-style health-care system--in which the government will tell you what you may or may not get to save your life or make your life better--because of the lies and deceptions of Barack Obama and other defective and evil people. To learn more, you are urged to see the "****Special Note #62" section of my document entitled National Health Care and Mass Failure: The Reasons it is a Dead Issue, which can be reached by using this link: Health.
While you travel in Michigan or anywhere in the United States of America pass along the information that I provide in this edition of Michigan Travel Tips.
And enjoy your safe traveling in Michigan!
Stay well!
Victor
P.S. #1: Remember: While you travel in Michigan, remind your children or grandchildren that they should never pledge to be a "servant to Obama" or a servant to any politician or sing the praises of Barack Obama, and to help you remember other matters that you should teach children about bad politicians, such as Barack Obama (who can be described as an "enslaver"), see such other documents of mine as Conservatism for Children and What Conservatism Means (which can be reached through this link: Conservatism) and Lessons for Children about Politics and Dangerous People (which can be reached through this link: Children). (Note: I first passed along the subject of not being a "servant to Obama" and the like in the publication entitled T.H.A.T. #58, which can be reached through this link: T.H.A.T. #58.)
