- - - Travel Thoughts for Everyone - - -

When I was growing up and going to school, I never did one of those "What I did on summer-vacation things" when the school year started, or at least I do not remember giving a talk about "What I did on summer vacation."  At one point, I thought about making this edition of Michigan Travel Tips a story about what I did on summer vacation, noting some places that I had visited, but I had visited few places this summer.  So I have made this of Michigan Travel Tips a story that contains some things learned over the summer and some observations made.

I start by talking a bit about the Icebreaker Mackinaw Maritime Museum, which is a museum located at Mackinaw City, the Straits of Mackinaw, and which has been a museum since 2007.  For three seasons, I have been a volunteer at the museum, and during the time, I have been gathering information about the ship that is the museum--the old Mackinaw (WAGB 83)--that can be used by volunteers; when I did broadcasting and promoting of tourist attractions in the state from 1976 to 2003, I had discovered tourist attractions, such as retired ships, had no document of information to pass along to staffers or volunteers so that they would know a good amount of information about their places, and that inspired me to make a document for the museum.  This year, I finally learned the ship that is the museum--The Mackinaw (WAGB 83)--had an "AIS" (Automatic Identification System) during the later years, a requirement that had started in 2002 for many ships; this system is sort of a broadcast/computer system that broadcasts to other ships such things as the name of the ship the course of the ship and receives information from other ships about their names and courses.  The reason I only learned about it this year is the AIS monitor is missing from the bridge, where I am always stationed when I am aboard the ship, and I did not know it was missing, and I only discovered the piece of equipment by watching a 2006 documentary about the ship.  In addition, by watching a documentary about the ship and pausing the documentary, I was able to see identification numbers of an antenna housing that had existed on a pedestal on the "flying bridge" of the ship in 2006, and I saw identification marks that were "Saturn B Mk2," and when I tracked down the marks though an Internet search, I discovered it was a satellite-related uplink and downlink antenna made by Nera Communications, which would allow computer data transfer, telephone communication, and telex communication.  When you add up all the new information or corrected information that I put into my document for volunteers and staffers at the Icebreaker Mackinaw Maritime Museum, you have forty pages of information, so if you ever go to the museum and meet me, you can be assured you should have most your questions answered well, if not all of your questions.

Here are two thoughts of the two ships known as Mackinaw.  This summer, I was able to speak with these former staffers of The Mackinaw (WAGB 83): William Donahue, Pat Jehl, Dale Nelson, Chad Penar, Bill Schobert, and David Thomas.  This summer, I was able to speak with a staffer of the new Mackinaw, which had been commissioned in June 2006, but I know not who he was, because he had not identified himself and I had not learned that he had been on the old Mackinaw for a tour till some hours after he had left.

This summer, I heard more stories from people associated with shops and businesses that young people just do not want to work, or expect to get hired in and get paid for doing little, or get hired in and quickly become one of the bosses, et cetera, and it is more evidence that the country is in trouble.

It was on July 3, 2010, that the Gaylord Discovery Center had a "Grand Opening."  This place is a museum for little children and is located at Gaylord (of Crawford County in the Lower Peninsula).  The place is not only open to Gaylord area little children (with parents) but also open to little children who are vacationing in the Gaylord area.  The address is 931 South Otsego Avenue.  There is an admission.  For example, the admission is $8.00 for a child, and the admission is related to ten visits.

I saw more pieces of information that show why Detroit is going to be a dead city for decades, even if people start working correctly in the right direction, which will not happen since many people in Detroit who are supposedly guiding the way are communists or socialists or black radicals (those promoting "black liberation theology"), and some of the pieces of information are given here--headlines from articles in the Detroit Free Press, which is a left-wing newspaper, which promotes such nonsense as manmade-global-warming and cap-and-trade legislation.  On Tuesday, August 10, 2010, the big headline in the Detroit Free Press was "A SPORTS HEAVEN IN DOWNTOWN DETROIT?", which showed the idea of a possible forthcoming "utopia" related to sports for Detroit, which some people think might help save Detroit, but I say is nonsense.  On August 15, 2010, the newspaper was pushing the idea that Detroit is going to get better and that better days are ahead for Detroit through the article attached to this headline--"THEY BELIEVE IN DETROIT.  DO YOU?".  On August 15, 2010, an article in the newspaper was entitled "Changing hearts, minds about Detroit.  Ad campaign seeks to recruit volunteers to transform city," which shows nonsense in that people believe that volunteers create a city and that people should become involved in volunteering--and not getting any pay--to build the city, which is not the way to build a city, and I say that the article shows this nonsense--people believe they can use hype to convince idiots and dummies that Detroit can be saved through communism and socialism (you are urged to see Michigan Travel Tips #67, which can be reached through this Travel #67 link, and Michigan Travel Tips #68, which can be reached through this Travel #68 link, so see stories about a man who came to Detroit and lived in Detroit in the 1920s, when Detroit was attracting people from other parts of the country and was growing).  On August 18, 2010, the newspaper had this story: "Bing: City needs Detroiters' help: Mayor wants their insight in plan to reshape Motown."  On Friday, August 20, 2010, the newspaper had this story: "FARMING PLAN GAINS TRACTION."  (Note: Yes, some people--black who are leaders--want to push Detroiters into being on community farms--think of slaves).  On August 29, 2010, the newspaper had this headline for a story; "UAW, Jackson rally for change; Event pushes to rebuild America, create jobs," which covered a "walk" attended by the useless man known as Reverend Jesse Jackson, a radical black who has created nothing and made no other man or woman better.

By the way, it takes decades to build a city, so Detroit will not be made better in a few years--it is impossible.

Advertisement: The commercial in this edition of Michigan Travel Tips urges you to get a copy of Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto, which is a book written by Mark R. Levin.  This book will help you understand better what Barack Obama is--a man who is purposely hurting the country, even though he is the president of the country--but the book is really about enslavers--politicians--who do not believe in the values of The U.S. Constitution and how The U.S. Constitution is designed to limit the power of the government, especially a dictatorship, over the individual (the citizen).  Remember: In the United States of America, it is the individuals who own the government and not the government that owns the citizens, the latter of which is what Barack Obama wants and is pushing for.

So let me take up the subject about tourism:
Topic one: Here are traffic-crossing stats for the Mackinac Bridge related to some Junes: 493,491 for June 2002, 464,103 for June 2003, 444,780 for June 2004, 436,952 for June 2005, 429,061 for June 2006, NA for June 2007, 366,985 for June 2008, 388,997 for June 2009, and 391,502 or June 2010.
Topic two: For five summers, I have spent much time along Huron Beach of Hammond Bay of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, and this year, the beach traffic--made up of those walking the beach or using the beach--is down from that of last year (I have no survey information--I only have my impressions).
Topic three: From 1976 to 2003, I was involved in tourism while working for AAA Michigan, and on the day before each Annual Labor Day Bridge Walk on the Mackinac Bridge during the time, I was able to report--from information gathered from hotels and motels and Welcome Centers--that motels and hotels were full in the Straits of Mackinac area, and on the evening of Sunday, September 5, 2010 (the day before the 2010 walk), when I was on US-23 and Huron Street in Mackinaw City, I saw that at least 80 percent of the inn-type places were showing "vacancy," "yes," or "welcome."
Topic Four: I do not have actual statistics for attendance at the Icebreaker Mackinaw Maritime Museum for 2010 up to this point, but there have not been any "300" days this year (last year, there were).

By the way, it is individuals who try to create businesses and keep businesses operating, despite the hardship often put on them by government officials--such as, in this day and age, communists and socialists and black radicals--who make a town or city grow.

Let me mention a business that I have only learned about this summer.  At Port Austin, which is in Huron County of the Lower Peninsula, there is a business known as Chuck's Marine.  It is a place that offers boat rides, such as to the Port Austin Lighthouse, runs snorkeling trips, gives diving instructions, and sells new and used diving equipment and also rents equipment.
Let met cover two tourist attractions, which I have known about for some time but I thought I should pass along to you in this document.  Manistee, Michigan, is a city along Lake Michigan, and it is a place where two ships are open to tours, and one of the ships is the S.S. City of Milwaukee and the USCGC Acadia, the latter of which is a 1940s U.S. Coast Guard Cutter, and both are open for tours though October (a tourist season runs from April through October).  The tourist season for the Little River Railroad, which has a steam train that is used to give rides and has a museum, is open till the end of the year, and this place is located at Coldwater, which is in Branch County of the Lower Peninsula.

Promotional announcement: The Landmark Legal Foundation is made up of lawyers, such as Mark R. Levin (of The Mark Levin Show, a nationally syndicated radio show), who fight in court cases against those who do not uphold The U.S. Constitution and the rule of law for the country, and the Landmark Legal Foundation fights for the rights of the individual and against Marxists, communists, and the like.  In this day and age when Barack Obama, who I am convinced has a truly highly ill mind, is going against the rules of the country while pursuing a goal--I believe--to hurt the country and remake it or destroy it, I believe the Landmark Legal Foundation needs your help desperately; for example, retired lawyers who want to protect the country should consider donating time to helping the Landmark Legal Foundation.  I urge you to avoid making any donations to entities to promote manmade global warming or climate change and make a donation to the Landmark Legal Foundation instead (by the way, you should look into supporting the Heritage Foundation).

While traveling this summer, I passed along information about my Web site and talked about Barack Obama, showing his ignorance and sickness and evilness.  I came across many persons who understand what Barack Obama is, and they are angry.  I also came across many stupid people or dangerous people who think what Barack Obama is doing is good things, though they cannot specify what good has been done, one of whom was a woman and a leader for a Boy Scout Troop, and she was a big supporter of wind turbines for the country, and that means she is a person who teaches nonsense to the boys (by the way, the leaders of the Boy Scout Troop who were males acted like boys or were prissy, so what the troop has is boys teaching boys to be men, and, by the way, when I was a Cub Scout years and years ago, the men who were the leaders for the troop seemed to be men).

I close this edition with some background information and queries.  In the previous edition of Michigan Travel Tips, I brought up the subject of my believing that Barack Obama purposely worked to hurt the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico this summer, and evidence about that can be found in my document entitled The Oil-Rig Disaster of April 20, 2010: Evidence that Shows Barack Obama Purposely Wanted to Hurt the Beaches, which can be reached by using this link: Oil Rig.  So, gals, did you get to show off at any of the beaches of the Gulf Coast?  So, guys, did you get to see any "erotics" at the Gulf Coast?  Or did Barack Obama stick it to you?

Barack Obama did indeed stick it to you, but maybe you are too stupid to know it.

Stay well!

Victor

P.S. #1: Remember: While you travel in Michigan, remind your children or grandchildren that they should never pledge to be a "servant to Obama" or a servant to any politician or sing the praises of Barack Obama, and to help you remember other matters that you should teach children about bad politicians, such as Barack Obama (who can be described as an "enslaver"), see such other documents of mine as Conservatism for Children and What Conservatism Means (which can be reached through this link: Conservatism) and Lessons for Children about Politics and Dangerous People (which can be reached through this link: Children).  (Note: I first passed along the subject of not being a "servant to Obama" and the like in the publication entitled T.H.A.T. #58, which can be reached through this link: T.H.A.T. #58.)
