Hey, over the last two years, I have been noticing--more than I can remember (it seems)--that the landscape of Michigan has gone through some big changes and is going through some big changes.  The changes are not because of manmade climate change, the theme of which is nonsense from communists and socialists and other bad people--enslavists--most of whom are members of the Democratic Party, which is a communistic and socialistic entity and probably will be forever now.  If you go traveling over the next number of months, covering mostly the summer tourist season, you will very likely see the changes.  No, the Mackinaw Bridge has not been changed a lot, though you could see, for instance, painting crews working on it, if you travel on the Mackinaw Bridge.  Castle Rock still exists--it has not fallen down.  The Muskegon River and the Au Sable River have not gotten plugged up.  The Upper Peninsula--which is still there, believe it or not--still has Ives Lake, Silver Lake, Rush Lake, Mountain Lake, Conway Lake, and Deer Lake, and those lakes are officially in Marquette County.  So what has changed?  Over the last few years, big tourist attractions at which people can spend a lot of money have shut down.  For instance, good luck finding a Big Lots in Michigan.  On a regular basis, I see two closed down buildings that once housed Rite Aid stores.  And more types of stores in Michigan are expected to become empty buildings soon.  For example, it has been announced that stores tied to Party City and Macy's and Joann or Joann's (a sewing-related place) are closing stores, and that will make more change in landscape.  I have to make an extra note about the Joann chain.  I have used a Joann store in recent months, such as to get thread to fix the roof of a screen house and to get patching material for clothe.  It comes to me.  I have been noting that young guys in Michigan do not fix as much as young guys in the 1940s and 1950s and 1960s did, and they seem not to build as much in the way of things, such as plastic models.  By the way, a store called P & D Hobby of the Detroit area, which I used to get little props for my model of 40 Mile Point Lighthouse, such as little men, closed a few years ago, and one reason for that is young guys do not do as much as young guys did years ago.  Let me get to that gals now!  I wonder if young gals--as a group--do not do as much as young gals did in the 1940s and 1950s and 1960s.  I have used a sewing machine from time to time over the years, such as to make clothe stuff for two outdoor lounge chairs.  What do young gals do today?  It seems to me they do little in the way of sewing.  Because of that, Joann has been getting few customers.  Of course, that means that young gals are growing up to be dumber and be less useful, getting fewer skills.  I went looking on the Internet--I came across no stories that some motel chain is closing a bunch of locations in Michigan over the next few months, but I noticed a few little places in Michigan did shut down recently, but there are still a lot of motels open in Michigan for this summer tourist season.  Yet, I wonder if there is less vacation traffic than there was was in, for example, the 1980s and 1990s.  It seems to me families are taking fewer trips as a rule, but maybe I am wrong--I do not have data on the subject.  For those who like to travel, maybe to see how things are changing in Michigan, I have another Michigan Travel Tips here.

Warning announcement!  Because of incidents at schools for children and incidents at other places for people in general tied to "Sharia" or "Islamic Law" or even the religion/political system known as "Islam," I now regularly have this paragraph as a part of each edition of Michigan Travel Tips.  The governmental system of the United States of America based on The U.S. Constitution and "Sharia" or, informally, Islamic law, are not compatible and cannot co-exist, and one reason is "Sharia" (et cetera) is a political system, in which there is one-party rule, and that one party is basically made up or controlled by religious leaders who base all the ways of their culture or society on "Sharia" or "Islamic Law."  Those who uphold and practice "Sharia" have no tolerance for the existence of Christianity or Buddhism or Hinduism or non-religion, and that is a fact, and "Sharia" is a political system in which women are second-rate human bodies and in which clergy can be involved in determining  business transactions, and there is no "freedom of speech" tied to politics in a society related to "Sharia."  When you travel around Michigan and in other states of the country, watch for signs that rotten people are trying to teach you or family members, especially children, that "Sharia" is good and "Allah" is good and teach you or family members that the United States of America is bad and that, for instance, Christianity and Buddhism and Hinduism are bad, which I have evidence is happening and which is being brought about by people who are clearly working to make "Sharia" a dominant political system in the world (it is a political system as rotten as socialism and fascism and communism are, since it promotes violence and thuggery and coercion, and it promotes killing of non-followers behind the face of religion and a god, Allah).  By the way, a society based on "Sharia" really creates nothing in the long run and does not advance the human society as a whole since it is too busy suppressing the ideas of people and keeping the ideas of the society based on ways of only a few minds up front (the political leaders), whose main purpose is to keep themselves enriched through the work of others, the many--it is a gang-run society really.  Yes, if you run across people pushing the idea that Muslim stuff--particularly the true The Quran and not the translations of The Quran that are faked to hide the true nature of Islam--is better than the U.S. is, especially to little children, go public and make it known to other good people and fight back against it.

When I was young--back in the 1960s, for instance--I would regularly hear about Pointe Mouillee, since, in the spring, it was a general area that was used by people to catch smelt, and once at least, I was involved in cleaning a wash tub filled with smelt.  I have not thought much about Pointe Mouillee much in the last fifty years, and I have never actually been there.  Basically, it is at the border of Monroe County and Wayne County in the southeastern region of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, and it is, in essence, near Rockwood and South Rockwood and even near the Lake Erie Metropark.  Today, people will find that the Pointe Mouillee area has the "Pointe Mouillee State Game Area," which it has had for decades.  The place seems to be made up of some 4,000 acres.  I have a complaint with the area.  It is known for being a hunting area and an area for hiking and biking and bird watching.  By the way, it is managed by the Michigan Department of Resources.  I went to the website for the Pointe Mouillee State Game Area, and it found it to be weak or shallow or unclear or even crappy thing.  I was looking to see what a person could really see at the game area and what the game area had.  I clicked on things on the screen, and I was wondering whether or not I was getting information about the "game area" proper, such as about boating and camping, or getting talk in general terms about the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, covering a bunch of places.  I found a map of the game area--a small thing--but I did not see a good indication of what roads people could use to get to, for instance, good viewing areas or a DNR station.  I do report that it seems to have a couple boat launch areas, but I cannot specifically report where in this document.  There is no beach tied to the place.  I can only say that the Pointe Mouillee State Game area can be seen for free throughout the year (though a few "preserve" parts are closed from September 1 to December 15 each year).  Yes, you can think about taking the family or friends to the Pointe Mouillee State Game area for a bit of recreation and bird watching, but you had better send an email to the game area (the address is listed at the website) to get more information about the place first.  Maybe, the guys and gals tied to the game area will send you better information, such as a brouchure-like thing, either in paper form or email form.  The Pointe Mouillee State Game Area needs a better website or webpage.

Let me take you farther north.  Indian River is located, in essence, along I-75 in Cheboyan County, which is a part of the tip of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan.  You may travel through Indian River and may want to make a little rest stop, especially if you are in no hurry to get somewhere else.  Right to the west of Indian River is a lake called Burt Lake, and there is a beach called DeVol Beach at Indian River tied to Burt Lake.  The beach area is a place with that has a picnic area, and nearby is Veterans Pier, where someone can do a little simple fishing.  I bet people forget about DeVol Beach, since in the Indian area is Burt Lake State Park, which is to the south of the beach and which a lot of people go to in a year, and it has a boat launch, unlike DeVol Beach.  Also near DeVol Beach--a little to the north--are the Hildner-Bearce Preserve and the Waubun Preserve, and, really, they are one place, and it is a small place, which has a small trail system that people like to walk about on.  If you look at a map, you can sort of see that Indian River is at the south end of Burt Lake and sort of at the south end of Mullett Lake, so there is a lot of water around to see.  If you have been to DeVol Beach recently, I bet it has not changed much since the last time you were there.

Okay, pay attention.  I am going to take you someplace.  Get a map of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  Find M-26 in the Keweenaw Peninsula of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  A little south of Houghton, you will find a place called Toivola (it is along M-26).  At Toivola, there is a road that goes west, and it is called Misery Bay Road.  I will try not to make this set of directions a misery.  Follow that road to the west, and go by the Toivola Cemetery, and then go by the Toivola Fire Hall.  Keep going till you see a road--at the right--that goes north.  Forget about that road, and forget about any roads to the south.  At the next road at the right, turn right, and go north.  Follow that road to the next road, which is an east-west road.  Turn left.  Go west.  Soon, you should come to Lake Superior.  But do not fall into Lake Superior.  Stop at Agate Beach.  Whew!  Agate Beach is a very rustic place.  It is a place for people who like to do rustic camping, such as with tents, or walk around for a short time, such as to do a bit of rock hunting.  There happens to be a few picnic tables on which you can lay out rocks that you find and study the rocks.  Officially, you are at 42820 Agate Road, by the way.  Now, to get back to Toivola, you follow my directions in reverse--sort of.  I hope you had fun.

Oh, if you have been to Agate Beach recently or if you have not, the only difference there may be there since last summer is the height of the water of Lake Superior, which has nothing to do with so-called manmade climate change--it goes up and down all the time, as it has for countless years.

    Enjoy your traveling in Michigan!

And keep aware of the rotten people in Michigan.

    Stay well!
