- - - Travel Thoughts for Everyone - - -

For some 27 years, starting in 1976, I promoted tourism in Michigan while working for AAA Michigan (or Michigan AAA), and I did that while being in the broadcast area of the company, and since 2004, I have promoted tourism in the Michigan by writing Michigan Travel Tips documents, and, in essence, I have written some of the documents over the last twenty years or so at a house (where I have been spending a half of each year) that is along Lake Huron--I can look out toward Canada regularly--and I have written a number of television history documents at the same place, and I have become maybe the best national television historian in the country.  I have seen the beach of Lake Huron change regularly over the two decades because of the work of the water of Lake Huron, and I have seen the shore get farther out one year and get closer in another year.  Over the last forty-eight years or so, I have heard or seen information about how tourist attractions have been affected adversely--though not that much really--by the change of the water levels of the Great Lakes, and so it goes--that is what can happen at shorelines.  That is nature!  On July 7, 2024, the Detroit Free Press published a story called "Climate change keeps reshaping iconic destinations in America"  [Pulver, Dinah Voyles, and Elizabeth Weise, Jeanine Santucci, Doyle Rice, Kayla Jimenez, and Joel Shannon.  "Climate change keeps reshaping iconic destinations in America."  Detroit Free Press, 7 July 2024, p. 3A.], and I immediately deduced the story was published to sell the idea that man was killing the planet by causing climate change and hurting tourist destinations.  Look at the opening of the article--"As millions of Americans flock to the nation's coasts, islands and national monuments this summer, experts have a sobering message: Climate change is rapidly reshaping some of the United States' most iconic destinations.  Devastated tropical islands.  Ruined coastal homes.  A flooded capital.  The changes are unfolding in plain sight and at a rapid and terrifying pace, experts told USA TODAY -- with no sign of stopping.".  [Note: Do you hear the scare tactic?]  Okay, do you have that well in mind?  By the way, the story would focus on, for example, troubles with the Big Sur Coastal Highway of California (along the Pacific Ocean, in essence), which has had a washed-out problem recently.  Hold it!  I have reported that I am a television historian.  When I saw the newspaper story, I got in mind an image from a movie of the past.  Dragnet (a made-for-TV movie of 1966) was aired on NBC-TV on January 27, 1969, and it featured Jack Webb and Frank Morgan as two police officers, and in one scene (set in California), which had heavy raining going on, Vic Perrin's character was threatening to cause a trailer to get washed down or go down a hillside.  Over the years, I have seen images of real houses (such as along the California coast) going down hillsides because of the weather and because builders gambled with the locations of the houses.  I have also heard of roads getting blocked in mountain areas, such as the Smoky Mountains, because of landslides.  That stuff has been going on for years and decades.  Yet, the newspaper story was selling the idea--by highlighting a couple places in the world--that the world is in trouble because of climate change and that holiday destinations are going to disappear because of climate change [caused by man].  I can report today that, in the last year, no tourist attraction in Michigan has fallen in to a river or a lake or one of the Great Lakes, so enjoy your traveling in Michigan and enjoy this edition of Michigan Travel Tips.

Okay, I have recently had one of those "Dang!" moments.  In the previous edition of Michigan Travel Tips, I talked about some amusement parks in Michigan, and I forgot to highlight one, which I had had plans to talk about.  For some time, I have been aware of a place in the Comins area of Oscoda County of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, and it is Cedar Valley's Wild Frontier Fun Park, and, for example, this year, I regularly drive by it--sort of--while traveling on M-33 between Mio and Comins, and I regularly see a sign for it on the trips.  Really, Cedar Valley's Wild Frontier Fun Park is located at 3780 North Weaver Road, and, basically, the park is east of M-33 a very short distance.  This summer, it is open at least from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursdays, 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Fridays, and 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturdays, and by the time you read this, it may have additional hours, such as on Sundays.  As you should expect for an amusement park, it has all the important things, such as bumper cars, a train ride, an ice-cream shop, a picnic area, a fun house, batting cages, a Tilt-a-Whirl, a kiddie roller coaster, a big roller coaster, a ferris wheel, zip lines, a slide, and a carousel, and you will find more.  The operators of the place call it the "second largest" amusement park in Michigan.  Generally speaking, I can say that the tourist season or visitor season for Cedar Valley's Wild Frontier Fun Park is from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.  Keep that in mind!

You should be able to determine little time is left to see some things in Michigan, since they get closed down at the end of summer.  An example of that is the place mentioned in the previous paragraph of this document, and another example is the Kalkaska County Museum, which is located at Kalkaska of Kalkaska County of the Lower Peninsula.  And, really, if you were in the Traverse City area, it would not take long to reach Kalkaska from the Traverse City area.  Generally speaking, the Kalkaska County Museum is open on a Wednesday-through-Saturday basis, and it is open fro 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m..  Basically, the museum focuses on the Kalkaska area, and everything is featured in a building that was built in 1911.  And I note that the tourist season for the Kalkaska County Museum only covers June, July, and August of a year.  Since the place only has a short tourist season, that might give you one of those "Dang!" moments, especially if you will not get to the Traverse City/Kalkaska area till September of this year.

Warning announcement!  Because of incidents at schools for children and incidents at other places for people in general tied to "Sharia" or "Islamic Law" or even the religion/political system known as "Islam," I now regularly have this paragraph as a part of each edition of Michigan Travel Tips.  The governmental system of the United States of America based on The U.S. Constitution and "Sharia" or, informally, Islamic law, are not compatible and cannot co-exist, and one reason is "Sharia" (et cetera) is a political system, in which there is one-party rule, and that one party is basically made up or controlled by religious leaders who base all the ways of their culture or society on "Sharia" or "Islamic Law."  Those who uphold and practice "Sharia" have no tolerance for the existence of Christianity or Buddhism or Hinduism or non-religion, and that is a fact, and "Sharia" is a political system in which women are second-rate human bodies and in which clergy can be involved in determining  business transactions, and there is no "freedom of speech" tied to politics in a society related to "Sharia."  When you travel around Michigan and in other states of the country, watch for signs that rotten people are trying to teach you or family members, especially children, that "Sharia" is good and "Allah" is good and teach you or family members that the United States of America is bad and that, for instance, Christianity and Buddhism and Hinduism are bad, which I have evidence is happening and which is being brought about by people who are clearly working to make "Sharia" a dominant political system in the world (it is a political system as rotten as socialism and fascism and communism are, since it promotes violence and thuggery and coercion, and it promotes killing of non-followers behind the face of religion and a god, Allah).  By the way, a society based on "Sharia" really creates nothing in the long run and does not advance the human society as a whole since it is too busy suppressing the ideas of people and keeping the ideas of the society based on ways of only a few minds up front (the political leaders), whose main purpose is to keep themselves enriched through the work of others, the many--it is a gang-run society really.  Yes, if you run across people pushing the idea that Muslim stuff--particularly the true The Quran and not the translations of The Quran that are faked to hide the true nature of Islam--is better than the U.S. is, especially to little children, go public and make it known to other good people and fight back against it.

On YouTube, I have within the last few weeks seen videos, such as review videos, of small camper vans, and they are quite cool.  The van-things are loaded with features.  The first video that I saw was associated with the 2024 Giottiline Siena 322 Privilege (from a company called Rapido); I was not looking for the video and related videos--the video just happened to be there as one of the videos offered when I showed up upon entering YouTube one day, maybe on a day to check the "dashboard" stuff associated with "The Hologlobe Press" channel on YouTube.  On the day that I wrote this section, I specifically looked on YouTube for more videos tied to camper vans, and I looked for prices on YouTube and the Internet proper.  The prices were hard to fine.  I will say that the prices--covering from fairly new units to new units--run between about $60,000 and $300,000.  Do not hold me to that!  When I looked for the price of the 2024 Giottiline Siena 322 Privilege, I found a lot of prices tied to "the pound" (of the England area of the world), but I did not work out a money-convertion cost to see what the price might be in U.S. dollars.  I did see that at least one place in the U.S.--in Ohio--was selling the unit.  Really, all that I was doing was getting a rough idea what the camper-van industry was like these days.  Since the 2024 Giottiline Siena 322 Privilege is small, it probably could be used at "Ski-kwe zaagigan State Forest Campground," which is located about 15 miles to the southwest of Republic, which is in Marquette County of the Upper Peninsula.  Today, "Ski-kwe zaagigan State Forest Campground" is a place that has 15 tent or small-camper sites.  The nightly cost is $20.00, and the place is a first-to-show-up place (there is no reservation system).  The campground is associated with Bewabic State Park.  Hold it!  "Ski-kwe zaagigan State Forest Campground" is designed to be a rustic campground.  It has no electricity to run anything.  It is a place with no trash cans, so a person has to carry all waste materials out of the place when the person leaves the place.  I get the feeling, in a way, some people might balk at the idea of taking a small camper van to "Ski-kwe zaagigan State Forest Campground."  It is a place that is designed to offer a "rustic" experience.  Oh, the nearby lake is called Minokwezenhs zaagigan.  A finical person could probably not frown at a person's bringing a small kayak or boat (such as a blow-up rubber boat) to the campground.  Hold it again!  If you get a new camper van, think about doing what I do with cars, given the price of such things today.  I use roofing tar (from, for example, a gallon can or several) to tar up all the door lips and hood lips and trunk lips, and I apply the material by hand (and the process involves using something like "Cling Warp" to cover the tar for a day or two till it hardens).  I tar up underneath the vehicle, and I cover brake lines and under-body areas and suspension bolts and suspension parts.  I take out the wheel shirts, and I tar up the inside of the quarter panels.  To do all that I do does not take that much time [Note: I have not reported everything that I cover.].  If I were to spend some $80,000+ on a 2024 Giottiline Siena 322 Privilege, I certainly would not want it to go to crap because of rust that could have been blocked.  Such a tarred-up camper would be in good shape and be nice to drive for 20 years or 30 years or more, given often such vehicles only get used for a limited time of a year.  I happen to know that some people have videos on the Internet that hint the manufacturers have been making cheaper-quality RVs in recent years and that some people are holding on to or getting used vehicles.  By the way, I am the best Detroit television historian in the country, and I see that Mike Wendland (who for many decades was a news-type man on television in Detroit) has videos on YouTube with his wife that are reviews of RVs, but I have yet to see him get tough and show whether or not new RVs are crappier in quality than those of some years ago--he does only fluff it seems.

    Enjoy your traveling in Michigan!

And keep aware of the rotten people in Michigan.

    Stay well!
