- - - Travel Thoughts for Everyone - - -

For about 27 years, I never took part, such as by traveling, in a big summer holiday, which included the Memorial Day holiday, the July 4th holiday, and the Labor Day holiday, and the reason is I was working in the broadcast area for Michigan AAA or AAA Michigan, which ran "Bring 'em Back Alive! Holiday News Services" for radio stations in the state--it was a free service with hourly reports that had travel information and event information and tourist-attraction information, the latter category of which helped promote places to see in the state, such as museums.  The first such holiday that I worked for AAA Michigan was the July 4th holiday for 1976, and I did hourly reports by telephone for radio stations in southwestern Lower Michigan, while other guys and gal covered other areas of the state.  So maybe you heard me give reports on radio stations between 1976 and about 2003 while traveling.  Some July 4th holidays took place in the middle of a week, and when such a thing happened, the service was only up and running usually on July 3 and July 4, but most summer holidays involved four days of work (some 56 hours or more), covering from Friday afternoon to Monday night (or Tuesday morning very early).  It was on Tuesday July 3, 2024, when I was thinking about the days at AAA Michigan and what I reported years ago, and I was sitting in a lounger in a screen house on a beach of Lake Huron.  I had a radio with me, and I ran through the stations, and I heard music of the 1960s and 1970s and 1980s, having songs that a person would have heard during the days of  "Bring 'em Back Alive! Holiday News Services," and they are better songs than much of the stuff of today, especially the rap crap.  I ended up listening to WCMU-FM (a radio station associated with NPR, the communistic and socialistic national entity), and a program called Marketplace was being broadcast.  I do not listen to the station usually, well aware it is a pusher of crap, and on July 3, 2024, I heard mostly young girls and girlie sounding young guys on the program, and I heard a so-called report about piracy of video materials (which featured a guy from The New York Times, the socialistic and communistic entity) and other fluff stuff, and, really, it was all hollow stuff.  Early in the show, some gal was pushing out an economics-report thing, and she had a talk about inflation, and it was reported how government spending and tax cuts were drivers of inflation and federal government debt, while saying nothing about cutting spending, and she pointed out that, if Donald J. Trump were to be elected again, he would push through tax cuts, and he would create more inflation, and her report was clearly slanted to make Donald J. Trump a worse choice than a Democrat would be in a presidential election.  That is crap and propaganda!  When Donald J. Trump was officially the U.S. president--before shit-head Joseph Biden would become the U.S. president-- there were tax cuts for everyone, and inflation did not go to crap.  In addition, during the time of Ronald Reagan as the U.S. president (in the 1980s), tax cuts led to a better business climate, and the government then took in more tax revenue.  So Marketplace (an NPR-related show) pushed crap, and if people traveling to their July 4th retreat (while I was sitting at the beach) on July 3, 2024 heard the show, they would have been sold crap, and they would have had no travel information to help make listening to radio more useful.  Today, there are no travel reports for long-distance travelers in Michigan to hear, as there were years ago, and there is more crap news, especially on WCMU-FM.

In the 1960s, I got to go several times to Edgewater Park (an amusement park with rides and such), Detroit, Michigan, which was at Seven Mile Road and Berg Road, and I usually went with other students as part of a day-long school trip in the late spring of a school year.  That park was opened up on July 2, 1927, and it was closed on September 13, 1981, and that is information from the Detroit Historical Society.  I really liked the bumper cars.  The 1900s was the heyday of the amusement-park industry in Michigan, but amusement parks--or similar type things--yet exist in Michigan.  I discovered recently, however, that "Great American Adventures" of Petoskey, Michigan, closed down in late 2020, and maybe that was because of COVID-19 and maybe not.  Over the last few years, I have sometimes driven by while on US-23 an amusement park in the Alpena area--a little north of Alpena proper (of Alpena County of the Lower Peninsula).  That place is the Arzo Sports & Fun Park.  A little research has shown me that it is a place mostly aimed at children, unlike a park at Okemos, Michigan, but adults can have some fun at the Alpena place, too   Arzo Sports & Fun Park is open from late morning to late evening every day of the week (at least now in the summer tourist season).  And it has bumper cars!  For fun, the place has go-karts, batting cages, and a mini-golf course.  By the way, I regularly drive through Onaway, Michigan, and I see the closed regular-type golf-course area, and I wonder who screwed up and did actions that led to the golf course getting closed down, and it has been closed down for some five years or so.  Let me get back to Alpena.  The Arzo Sports & Fun Park has a driving range (for real golf), a ferris wheel, a venetian carousel, arcades, a bungee thing, a roller coaster, and an ice-cream parlor.  A person can even see the Statue of Liberty at the place.  The Arzo Sports & Fun Park is located along US-23 near Bloom Road or the water tower for Alpena Township.  I remind you that the place is a family place.  Elsewhere, Okemos sort of has a place for older children and for adults, and it is called High Caliber Karting & Entertainment.  It has electric go-karts, and to take part in running in one, a person has to be at least 54-inches tall (four-foot-six-inches tall).  The place has two main tracks--the "Blue Track" and the "Red Track"--and one has more curves than the other.  A person can easily understand the place is more for older children and adults by looking at only some of what it has or at some of what can be done at the place.  It has ax throwing.  By the way, on the date that this document was posted on the Internet, an ax-throwing tournament was held at High Caliber [the informal title].  It has "combat karting," during which people are shooting at others.  "Gellyball Battles" are held at the place.  There is archery stuff.  And using soccer balls, which are of various colors, people play "Pocket Soccer" at High Caliber.  It is more expensive to play at High Caliber than it is to play at Arzo Sports & Fun Park.  I report that High Caliber is usually open at 1982 West Grand River, Okemos (which is near Lansing of Ingham County of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan) from noon to 10:00 p.m..  Unlike Arzo Sports & Fun Park, High Caliber hosts a car show each year, and the next one--the Fourth Annual Meridian Motorfest--is scheduled for September 1, 2024.

Warning announcement!  Because of incidents at schools for children and incidents at other places for people in general tied to "Sharia" or "Islamic Law" or even the religion/political system known as "Islam," I now regularly have this paragraph as a part of each edition of Michigan Travel Tips.  The governmental system of the United States of America based on The U.S. Constitution and "Sharia" or, informally, Islamic law, are not compatible and cannot co-exist, and one reason is "Sharia" (et cetera) is a political system, in which there is one-party rule, and that one party is basically made up or controlled by religious leaders who base all the ways of their culture or society on "Sharia" or "Islamic Law."  Those who uphold and practice "Sharia" have no tolerance for the existence of Christianity or Buddhism or Hinduism or non-religion, and that is a fact, and "Sharia" is a political system in which women are second-rate human bodies and in which clergy can be involved in determining  business transactions, and there is no "freedom of speech" tied to politics in a society related to "Sharia."  When you travel around Michigan and in other states of the country, watch for signs that rotten people are trying to teach you or family members, especially children, that "Sharia" is good and "Allah" is good and teach you or family members that the United States of America is bad and that, for instance, Christianity and Buddhism and Hinduism are bad, which I have evidence is happening and which is being brought about by people who are clearly working to make "Sharia" a dominant political system in the world (it is a political system as rotten as socialism and fascism and communism are, since it promotes violence and thuggery and coercion, and it promotes killing of non-followers behind the face of religion and a god, Allah).  By the way, a society based on "Sharia" really creates nothing in the long run and does not advance the human society as a whole since it is too busy suppressing the ideas of people and keeping the ideas of the society based on ways of only a few minds up front (the political leaders), whose main purpose is to keep themselves enriched through the work of others, the many--it is a gang-run society really.  Yes, if you run across people pushing the idea that Muslim stuff--particularly the true The Quran and not the translations of The Quran that are faked to hide the true nature of Islam--is better than the U.S. is, especially to little children, go public and make it known to other good people and fight back against it.

In the 1960s, I visited the location for the House of David Amusement Park of Benton Harbor, a city in which my grandfather (related to my mother) was involved for a while in the ownership of Empire Hardware, which he would get away from in the 1970s when Benton Harbor was going to crap and the store was having big problems with theft.  I do not remember much about park.  The House of David Amusement Park is long gone, but things are still taking place on the property, which is at 789 M-139 of Benton Harbor (of Berrien County of the Lower Peninsula).  Today, Eden Springs Park at House of David exists at Benton Harbor.  The place has a museum, where the famous House of David Amusement Park is chronicled at least a bit.  On Saturdays and Sundays, train rides are given on miniature trains.  Earlier this year, some new track and more track was put down.  Generally speaking, the tourist season is in the summer, but, for example, in October, the weekends are times for Halloween train rides, and in December, the place has Christmas train rides on a few weekends.  The hours during which rides are usually given in the summer are from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the weekends.  And Eden Springs Park at House of David will be the site for a car show on August 4, 2024.  To see all that is happening at Eden Springs Park at House of David, plan a trip.

On July 4, 2024, I watched fireworks--some 12 groups of fireworks--from the beach of Lake Huron that has already been mentioned in this document.  I thought about how animals, such as dogs, might get rattled by the explosions.  That would be a minor inconvenience.  None of it bothered me.  But, of course, the explosions were not as much as could have been happening in Israel and Ukraine right at that moment from people with the same mind set as Joseph Biden, an enslavist, the nature of which includes perpetual lying and hurting others who might block the ability to be "free" (to do whatever, such as kill, as has been taken up by Putin and Hitler-type people, to gain for the self).  I killed a couple bugs that evening and a moth that landed on a lens of my glasses.  At least, I did not have to dodge any flying metal.  I stood and watched, while thinking I am the type of man Joseph Biden, Kalama Harris, and Gretchen Whitmer (all supporters of communistic ways) would like to kill so that they could be more "free" and have happier future July 4ths.  And that is one thing that I did on July 4, 2024.

    Enjoy your traveling in Michigan!

And keep aware of the rotten people in Michigan.

    Stay well!

    Victor
