In a way, I rarely talk about seeing places in Ann Arbor, Michigan, since the place is a communistic and socialist stronghold in Michigan, and I have an example that shows off some of the rottenness of the place. Recently, a friend of mine passed along a little article, and the story was in a publication called Inside Academe, and the issue was for "2023-2024 No. 1", and the article was on page 11, and the article was under the "Heard on Campus" heading, and the name of the article was "No picnics at University of Nevada--Las Vegas". The focus of the article was on using or, really, not using the word "picnic" to describe an event that commonsense people would call a picnic, since the word has been tied to lynchings (sort of) of blacks years ago. In about the middle of the short article, it was written--"The word was also deemed offensive by the University of Michigan IT Department's 'Words Matter Task Force' in 2020. The task force recommended that the world 'gathering' be used instead.". So, it is yet a little too cool for a lot of picnicking to take place in Michigan, but if you get involved in picnicking this year, keep in mind that the University of Michigan is full of crap in relation to using the word "picnic" to describe that you are doing. Consider--Is that going "gathering" something like going to pick wild blueberries or wild strawberries. That is not a "picnic." You can end up having a miscommunication problem with someone. If you ask someone to go "gathering" with you, will that person think about "gathering" (nuts) or "picnicking"? The socialist's and communist's wish for word use ends up to be crap!
When you do research on the Internet, you can come across a lot of bad information or misinformation, and, by the way, as a television historian, I come across a lot of bad television history information, and when I work to correct the information of some people, they avoid me or get pissed off or show their arrogant belief that they are superior, such as staffers of the Britannica website. In another case, a person can be led astray while doing research, if the person is half paying attention. For example, if you look up information about "Iron Horse Park," you might spend time looking and reading information about an "Iron Horse Park" that offers miniature-train rides. You could say to yourself--I can take the kids there. Oops! That "Iron Horse Park" could bring up disappointment in you. That "Iron Horse Park" is in the Airdrie area of Alberta, Canada, and, for instance, that is far from Michigan. In another case, you might stumble upon information about for the "Iron Horse Park" of North Platte, Nebraska. Hey, if you go to the place at North Platte instead of Airdrie, you would save time on driving and on gas. As you should know, such a document as this one is focused on places to see in Michigan. You will find an "Iron Horse Park" in Michigan. It is located at Durand of Shiawassee County of the Lower Peninsula, and Durand is sort of along I-69 between Flint and Lansing, and Durand is about one-third of the way to Lansing on a trip started out at Flint. No train rides are available, such as for the kids, at Iron Horse Park of Durand, but there are parts of a train to see. The two biggest things are a real locomotive engine of the past and a train car of the past. It seems "Iron Horse Park" is not a big picnic place of Durand or the Durand area. If you go to the Durand area and wish to see Iron Horse Park and the train stuff and want to do some picnicking or more, you have a bunch of other parks that you can spend time at. For example, Lions Park and Shaw Park and Diamond District Park have picnic tables. The biggest parks of the Durand area--and the area seems to have local nine parks--are Optimist Park and Trumble Park, and both parks have restrooms, picnic tables, basketball courts, playground equipment, and grills. Trumble Park has a volleyball court, and Optimist Park has a skating rink, which, depending on the season, is used for ice skating or inline skating. If you happen to get be at Trumble Park at the right time in the warm times of the year, you might see that a baseball game taking place. Oh, if you go to "Iron Horse Park" of Airdrie or "Iron Horse Park" of North Platte, you will see a place that I have never been, and if you see something big to talk about, let me know.
Warning announcement! Because of incidents at schools for children and incidents at other places for people in general tied to "Sharia" or "Islamic Law" or even the religion/political system known as "Islam," I now regularly have this paragraph as a part of each edition of Michigan Travel Tips. The governmental system of the United States of America based on The U.S. Constitution and "Sharia" or, informally, Islamic law, are not compatible and cannot co-exist, and one reason is "Sharia" (et cetera) is a political system, in which there is one-party rule, and that one party is basically made up or controlled by religious leaders who base all the ways of their culture or society on "Sharia" or "Islamic Law." Those who uphold and practice "Sharia" have no tolerance for the existence of Christianity or Buddhism or Hinduism or non-religion, and that is a fact, and "Sharia" is a political system in which women are second-rate human bodies and in which clergy can be involved in determining business transactions, and there is no "freedom of speech" tied to politics in a society related to "Sharia." When you travel around Michigan and in other states of the country, watch for signs that rotten people are trying to teach you or family members, especially children, that "Sharia" is good and "Allah" is good and teach you or family members that the United States of America is bad and that, for instance, Christianity and Buddhism and Hinduism are bad, which I have evidence is happening and which is being brought about by people who are clearly working to make "Sharia" a dominant political system in the world (it is a political system as rotten as socialism and fascism and communism are, since it promotes violence and thuggery and coercion, and it promotes killing of non-followers behind the face of religion and a god, Allah). By the way, a society based on "Sharia" really creates nothing in the long run and does not advance the human society as a whole since it is too busy suppressing the ideas of people and keeping the ideas of the society based on ways of only a few minds up front (the political leaders), whose main purpose is to keep themselves enriched through the work of others, the many--it is a gang-run society really. Yes, if you run across people pushing the idea that Muslim stuff--particularly the true The Quran and not the translations of The Quran that are faked to hide the true nature of Islam--is better than the U.S. is, especially to little children, go public and make it known to other good people and fight back against it.
Hey, springtime and grass-cutting time is about here. Did you buy some new equipment--particularly a leaf blower to help with the work? Are you in Ann Arbor? Late last year, the city council in Ann Arbor set up the rule that, for instance, lawn-care guys and gals will not be able to use gas-powered leaf blowers begin on January 1, 2028. If you are leaf-blower lawn-care guy, I guess you will have to soon throw out or break up your gas-powered leaf blower and get new equipment, or you will have to spend money on new stuff and throw out stuff that might have years of useful use. If you contract for lawn service, the price is going to go up, because the lawn-care guy will have to spend more money on equipment. The rule from the Ann Arbor political people is all based on crap, and only jackasses would move to Ann Arbor, but I heard, in recent years, Ann Arbor has had an increase in population, especiallly "Gen-Z"-type kids. If you are smart, you will avoid seeing Ann Arbor. Another city to avoid is Ferndale, where you can find stanchons (related to bicycle routes) on some main roads, and I have seen them, and I have see some knocked flat and some knocked right off the roads (so only the bases of the stanchons are yet attached to the road), and I have seen many that show hit marks and scrap marks, and there are some new ones on Woodward Avenue right in downtown Ferndale, and I recently discovered that one small section of side street, which had had a small bunch of stachons, has none now--they have all be wiped out, and the money went out the window. The stanchons are a waste of money! What the hell are sidewalks for? And the stanchon stuff reminds me of a video that I saw on YouTube recently called "Every restaurant is CLOSED in San Francisco", which is about the many now-closed stores and such in the "Mission District" of San Francisco, and the closures seem to be recent as a rule, and one reason for the closed businesses is the lack of parking because of bicycle routes, which have reduced roadway for parking spots. The bicycle routes on roads are cost-defective. I rarely--if ever--come across someone on Woodward Avenue in Ferndale using a bicycle lane. It is wasted concrete and blacktop. And I have yet to see why sidewalks cannot be used for bicycles, and it is almost impossible for a bicyclist to kill a walker on a sidewalk, and it is more likely that a car will kill or hurt a bicyclist. Hey, make sidewalks, especially in residential areas, a little wider from now on--if you really have to make them wider--and keep the bicyclists off the roads.
[Note: To put up special bicycle-lanes on roads in cities and subburbs is a waste of money, since bicycles could use existing sidewalks, which have existed for decades and decades, and since a bunch of concrete has to be put down especially for bicycles only when sidewalks already exist (as a rule); the money used for bicycle lanes could better be used to fix roads and pot holes. It is hard for a bicyclist to kill a pedestrian on sidewalks, which are usually vacant, but it is easier for the bicyclist to get killed on streets than on sidewalks. It is less expensive to make sidewalks than to make full-lane of roadway. Yes, there can be times when a bicyclist has to use a road, but to make special bicycle lanes like those on Woodward Avenue in downtown Ferndale, Michigan, is jackass stuff. By the way, Woodward Avenue is a military-capable road, and it has to be something like at least 11-inches thick, so there are bicycle lanes on Woodward Avenue in Ferndale that are really thick, and I have seen them. Sidewalks only have to be about--what?--four inches thick.]
Enjoy your traveling in Michigan!
And keep aware of the rotten people in Michigan.
Stay well!
Victor
