Back in the middle of the 1950s or so, it seems my father and mother took what was then the family on a trip around the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, traveling by car along the big lakes, such as on US-31, and I use "it seems" since I was very young and I remember nothing of the trip (in fact, I was a baby then). In the 1950s and 1960s, in the springtimes, it was commonplace for fishermen to go out an catch smelt at the mouths of rivers--by the tubs full. In the 1960s, I helped clean about a wash tub of smelt one time. A friend of mine has reported a number of times how great the numbers of smelt were at rivers in the springs of the 1950s. The smelt populations went way down, and over the last couple decades, I have not heard about big smelt runs at rivers in the springs. What happened to the smelt? It was not a problem with climate change! It seems the fish where over-fished. I report the story about smelt, because on July 3, 2022, I saw an article on the front page of the Detroit Free Press that made me say--"Bullshit!". The article was "WARMING CLIMATE TAKING TOLL ON FISH" [Gitelman, Alex, and Allen Cheng. "WARMING CLIMATE TAKING TOLL ON FISH." Detroit Free Press, 3 July 2022, pages 1A, 17A, and 18A.]. The story opens with--"After the Williams family purchased the Bay Port Fish Company in 1978, they would take their boats out to Saginaw Bay and Lake Huron to catch carp, catfish, and yellow perch. Decades later, they still hold a license for 44 nets to catch yellow perch but have not used it for at least two years. 'There just isn't much yellow perch left on our side of the bay,' said Lakon Williams, who took over the management of the family business 10 years ago. 'Why would I want to hurt the population more and set 44 nets out there?' Over the years, the Williams family, one of the few remaining commercial fishers in Michigan, invested in new equipment for harvesting whitefish, a higher value catch whose stocks were rebounding after a sharp drop in the mid-1900s. Since the turn of the century, however, whitefish harvests have dwindled. For the business to survive, Lakon added processing and resale to their fishing operations, purchasing the catch from other fisheries and shifting most of their business into retail and distribution....". I have to stop here. Climate change was not big topic in the middle of the 1900s, and yet the numbers of whitefish were down? What caused that? Later, in the article, it is stated--"...Climate change brings a new and accelerating challenge to the region. According to the Great Lakes Integrated Sciences and Assessments program, from 1951 to 2017: * average temperatures in the Great Lakes basin have increased 2.3 degrees. * total precipitation increased by 14%. Heavy precipitation events increased by 35%. GLISA is a collaboration between Michigan State University and the University of Michigan, supported by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration....". Hold it! Are you going to tell me increased rain and increased hard rain has put down the fish populations (though the fish live in water)? The temperature increase--if the information can be trusted--went up over decades, and over the time, fish can adapt because the fish go through numerous generations! I have heard American Indian fishermen are not hindered in how much fish they can catch. I bet over-fishing has reduced numbers of fish and not climate change, and I bet fish simply take up other areas to be in (as women can choose to change their hair styles or outfits). While you travel in Michigan, think about what I have presented, and see climate-change-caused-by-man is not affecting the fish as much as people are trying to sell you on.
In Michigan, there are lot of little places--that are far away from the wasteland that is Washington, D.C., which is a place filled with corrupt men and women--all the Democrats and some of the Republicans. Certainly, the Upper Peninsula has many of those little places. Have you ever heard of the Arvon area or the Skanee area of the Upper Peninsula? You probably have not. The Arvon area does not have much in the way of industry or population and the like. It does have the remains of an old quarry, as a permanent tourist attraction, and it is what is called the Arvon Slate Quarry. By the way, the areas that I am talking about are sort of near L'Anse in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. No one does any mining at the quarry, which was only used from 1870 to 1892 to get slate, and now a pit, there, is filled with water. In that area, there are remains of some buildings, and there is scrap slate or waste slate. In essence, to get to the old mine area, a person takes Main Street at L'Anse to Skanee Road, on which the person runs on for about ten miles to get to Arvon Road, and that road is used for about four miles to get to the former quarry area. It does not matter when a person goes to the Arvon Slate Quarry, since it is open all year. By the way, years ago, when I was in high school in Inkster, Michigan, some teachers took me and other students to a shale quarry in northern Ohio, and I was able to find fossils of trilobites, which I still have, meaning that I have had them for a little over fifty years. The fossils are museum pieces. It seems you will not find any fossils of trilobites at the museum in the Arvon area, and that museum is called the Skanee Historical Museum, which focuses on history of the Arvon/Skanee area. A website related to the Arvon area, which is in Baraga County of the Upper Peninsula, notes that the Skanee Historical Museum is only open from June through August from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays. It is operated by the Arvon Township Historical Society. The museum building is a former parsonage relation to the Zion Lutheran Church of the area. You might think about seeing the museum while taking up non-permanent residence at a campground in the area, such as the Huron River Beach and Campground or Big Eric's State Forest Campground, or you might spend time at some motel in the general area. Some people who do take time to see the Arvon/Skanee area take a run on the Lake and Country Tour. And that is a look at some little places, which--I report--are being affected adversely--though you might not notice it when there--by the rottenness that inhabits Washington, D.C., such as the FBI agents who have taken up over the last few years the tactics of the Gestapo of the 1930s and 1940s of Germany (the socialistic country under Adolph Hitler)--killers.
Warning announcement! Because of incidents at schools for children and incidents at other places for people in general tied to "Sharia" or "Islamic Law" or even the religion/political system known as "Islam," I now regularly have this paragraph as a part of each edition of Michigan Travel Tips. The governmental system of the United States of America based on The U.S. Constitution and "Sharia" or, informally, Islamic law, are not compatible and cannot co-exist, and one reason is "Sharia" (et cetera) is a political system, in which there is one-party rule, and that one party is basically made up or controlled by religious leaders who base all the ways of their culture or society on "Sharia" or "Islamic Law." Those who uphold and practice "Sharia" have no tolerance for the existence of Christianity or Buddhism or Hinduism or non-religion, and that is a fact, and "Sharia" is a political system in which women are second-rate human bodies and in which clergy can be involved in determining business transactions, and there is no "freedom of speech" tied to politics in a society related to "Sharia." When you travel around Michigan and in other states of the country, watch for signs that rotten people are trying to teach you or family members, especially children, that "Sharia" is good and "Allah" is good and teach you or family members that the United States of America is bad and that, for instance, Christianity and Buddhism and Hinduism are bad, which I have evidence is happening and which is being brought about by people who are clearly working to make "Sharia" a dominant political system in the world (it is a political system as rotten as socialism and fascism and communism are, since it promotes violence and thuggery and coercion, and it promotes killing of non-followers behind the face of religion and a god, Allah). By the way, a society based on "Sharia" really creates nothing in the long run and does not advance the human society as a whole since it is too busy suppressing the ideas of people and keeping the ideas of the society based on ways of only a few minds up front (the political leaders), whose main purpose is too keep themselves enriched through the work of others, the many--it is a gang-run society really. Yes, if you run across people pushing the idea that Muslim stuff--particularly the true The Quran and not the translations of The Quran that are faked to hide the true nature of Islam--is better than the U.S. is, especially to little children, go public and make it known to other good people and fight back against it.
And here is some Michigan travel history that ties in with the July 4th holiday of 2022. Between August 1976 and April 2003, I was working at AAA Michigan (or Michigan AAA) in what was informally called the broadcast area, and I learned the general patterns of travel in Michigan during the July 4th holidays, because I took part in every "Bring 'em Back Holiday News Service" event, which broadcast travel information on radio stations all over the state. During the period, if July 4th was on a weekday, the travel holiday was at least from the Thursday before July 4th through the Sunday after July 4th; that is, some people made their holiday runs on the Thursday before and a lot made their holiday runs on the Friday before or the Saturday morning before, and the big push back home took place on the Sunday after. For 2022, the Saturday after July 4 (which was on a Monday) was Saturday, July 9, and although in the past fifteen years or so I had seen the beach near where I was staying on the day getting used somewhat well, the beach was nearly vacant for July 9, 2022, especially to the north. That hints at trouble in the country, given July 9, 2022, was a sunny day at the beach and not really hot. Where was everybody? Were people having fears about being in the sun, having bought into the years and years of publicity saying that they could get cancer by being in the sun? Did the price of gas deter people from vacationing? Is the breakdown of the family structure, causing a disappearance of the strong father, allowing kids to run the families and to put down traveling because they want to mess with their electronic devices and be with so-called friends in the home area, and that is why people were not around for July 4, 2022? Do single moms have no urge to go on long-distance family trips on the July 4th holiday, and that is why the crowds were down at the beach? Yes, the July 4th holiday for 2022 seemed to me to be a little off.
Enjoy your traveling in Michigan!
And keep aware of the rotten people in Michigan.
Stay well!
Victor
P.S. #1: Remember: While you travel in Michigan, remind your children or grandchildren that they should never pledge to be a "servant to Obama" or a servant to any politician or sing the praises of Barack Obama, and to help you remember other matters that you should teach children about bad politicians, such as Barack Obama (who can be described as an "enslave"), see such other documents of mine as Conservatism for Children and What Conservatism Means (which can be reached through this link: Conservatism) and Lessons for Children about Politics and Dangerous People (which can be reached through this link: Children). (Note: I first passed along the subject of not being a "servant to Obama" and the like in the publication entitled T.H.A.T. #58, which can be reached through this link: T.H.A.T. #58.)
P.S. #2: While you travel in Michigan, it is easy to come across evidence of rotten people or to meet rotten people. One really rotten man is Richard Bernstein, who is a new member to the Supreme Court for the State of Michigan. Evidence of his rottenness can be found in my document entitled Richard Bernstein--A Man Who Hopes You Are Blind to His Rottenness, which can be reached through this Bernstein link. Yet, on Monday, January 12, 2015, the Detroit Free Press did a story about Richard Bernstein to sell Richard Bernstein as something good, though he is not (Ahern, Louise Knott. "State's 1st blind justice aims to be inspiration." Detroit Free Press, 12 January 2014, p. 4A.). I report--I urge anyone who runs a business and loses a court case in which Richard Bernstein was one of the presiding judges to have the decision thrown out or killed through another case, since Richard Bernstein, while running to be elected to the Supreme Court of Michigan, made it clear that he was going to be biased against businesses if he were to be elected to the Supreme Court of Michigan, and that is a fact. Richard Bernstein is a rotten man!
