Special Important Announcement
I now have videos on YouTube, and they are history pieces, and they can be found at the channel for "The Hologlobe Press" (the search term). One of the videos is about my making of a model of 40 Mile Point Lighthouse, and other videos are about Ms. Anna May Wong, Ms. Sandy Benson (The Naked Lady of The Soupy Sales Show of KABC-TV), and WAYN-AM (of Wayne State University). By the way, you can use this Videos link to read about my videos. And I still have a document at the website for The Hologlobe Press entitled A COVID-19 Document that Shows the Rottenness of the CDC, Many in the Medical Community, Many in the Media, and All the Democrats, such as Gretchen Whitmer, Andrew Cuomo, and Joseph Biden, and the document can be reached by using this COVID-19 link.

Is television a vast wasteland? Sometimes yes it is, and sometimes no it is, but it is more a wasteland than it was from the 1940s to about the 1990s. At 8:00 p.m. on June 27 2024, a big waste of air time appeared on television sets in the country, and it was the CNN Presidential Debate broadcast, featuring Mr. Donald J. Trump an Shit-head Joseph Biden. There was no reason for the debate to take place. It was well known that Donald J. Trump did well as the U.S. president for four years, and it was well known that Joseph Biden was the worst U.S. president in U.S. history, which had nothing to do with his health but had to do with his rotten nature, which included following the ways on communism and regularly lying. But the debate took place, and I know not whether or not it persuaded people to vote, especially for a good man over a bad man. On November 5, 2024, the debate will be a forgotten television presentation, and television news people will begin to report on election results, and I will learn how many Americans are rotten people, having voted for an evil man--Joseph Biden. The number will be reported in the edition of Television History and Trivia for December 10, 2024, but for now, you have Television History and Trivia #243.
About a week before the big-deal debate was to take place, the Biden-Harris campaign pushed out a new television commercial, and it was full of crap, based on crap, such as corrupt court cases against Donald J. Trump. Here is what was said by an announcer--"In the courtroom, we see Donald Trump for who he is. He's been convicted of 34 felonies, found liable for sexual assault, and he committed financial fraud. Meanwhile, Joe Biden's been working, lowering health-care costs and making big corporations pay their fair share. This election is between a convicted criminal, who's only out for himself, and a president who's fighting for your family.". Then Joe Biden said--"I'm Joe Biden, and I approve this message".
The big push to make the "Feminist Movement" a cultural norm in the country really took off in the 1960s, pushed along by, for instance, communistic women, such as Jane Fonda (the freak and actress), although the "Feminist Movement" had been underway since the early 1900s (as nothing big). The "Feminist Movement" has resulted in the American woman going to shit as a rule--the American woman regularly walks like a man, dresses like a man, and is fat and angry. That is what I see on a daily basis. It is rare when I see a woman shaped as a woman and not like a cliché male plumber with the butt crack showing. Hey, think about this. Years ago, local beauty pageants with women--real women--were broadcast by Detroit-area television stations (and I have all the shows listed in my files), and some of those shows were Miss Flame (of the 1950s), Miss Michigan Aviation (of the late 1940s and early 1950s), Miss Michigan Pageant (of the 1960s), Miss Photoflash (of the 1950s), Miss Teen (of the 1960s), and Miss Black World (which was aired for several years in the early 1980s by WGPR-TV in the heyday period of WGPR-TV). The "Feminist Movement"--a communistic and socialistic movement--has killed the beauty pageant industry and the state of women in the United States of America, and it has led to shit in the beauty pageant industry--putting men (who, in essence, have had their dicks cut off and have had fake breasts added to them) in pageants that should only have women--real women and not freaks. I have some examples. In 2021, a man called "Kataluna Enriquez" (a man who had been chopped up) won the Miss Nevada title (related to the Miss USA franchise). By the way, the contest might have been televised, and if it was, I rate it has shit television, which had at least some shitty people as judges. More recently, a man called "Bailey Anne Kennedy" (another shit and freak) won the Miss Maryland title (related to the Miss USA franchise) on June 1, 2024, and that means a bunch of rotten people (at least judges at the contest) felt it was wonderful to push transgenderism. So, I report that the Miss USA contest is shit and should be seen as shit for years to come, and many people associated with it are shit, and that is how real man sees it. To anyone who thinks the transgender thing, especially incorporated into beauty contests for women, is great, I say that you are shit, and I will tell that to your face. Hey, guys (real guys), if you wish to see a gal who would be a great candidate for a televised beauty pageant, see my video called How I Made Lovely Nude Women for My Model of 40 Mile Point Lighthouse of Rogers City, Michigan, which is available on YouTube on the channel called "The Hologlobe Press" (which has eight videos in total), or you see my video called FINALLY IDENTIFIED The Naked Lady on "The Soupy Sales Show" of KABC-TV, Los Angeles, which shows off Ms. Sandy Benson. In total, my videos are more likeable and watchable than any three hours of prime-time television are, especially if a three-hour block has a Miss USA show.
I have to cover a subject again. Back in the 1950s and 1960s, it was easy to find pleasant and nice game-show hosts on television, such as Allen Ludden and Garry Moore. Look at some of what prime-time broadcast network television has today:
Beat Shazam (Fox TV) -- Jamie Foxx (a somewhat gutterish black)
Celebrity Family Feud (ABC-TV) -- Steve Harvey (a gutterish black)***
Celebrity Jeopardy! (ABC-TV) -- Ken Jennings (an arrogant elitist)
[Jeopardy! Masters (ABC-TV) -- Ken Jennings]
Celebrity Name That Tune (Fox TV) -- Jane Krakowski (a lesbian)
Lingo (CBS-TV) -- RuPaul (a black freak)
Password (NBC-TV) -- Keke Palmer (a black freak who comes of as unpleasant often)
Press Your Luck (ABC-TV) -- Elizabeth Banks (an often unlikeable gal)
Snake Oil (Fox TV) -- David Spade (a slob)
Weakest Link (NBC-TV) -- Jane Lynch (a very unlikeable and bitchy lesbian)
That covers many of the shows. I have left off a few shows, such as those with Drew Carey, Josh Duhamel, Rob Lowe, Jami Camile, and Pat Sajak (who is being replaced by Ryan Seacrest), and I note that it is commonplace to have blacks as hosts, such as in Raid the Cage (CBS-TV) with Damon Wayans Jr. and We Are Family (Fox TV) with Anthony Anderson. You can deduce the overall tone or image for hosts that is wanted by the network executives, who seem more concerned with having blacks and unlikeable people than with niceness and such.*** So, on June 6, 2024, in the evening--a little before 8:00 p.m.--I was at a computer and was doing tracking work on Saturday Home Theater and Sunday Home Theater, which were movie shows on WWJ-TV, Channel 4, Detroit, in the 1954-1955 television season, and they were used to show movies. All of a sudden, I realized that Svengoolie was starting up on MeTV, which was showing on a television set in the kitchen. I stopped working, and I went to change the channel on the big television set in the living room, which was set to ABC-TV. I was immediately exposed to an episode of Celebrity Family Feud, which was being hosted by Steve Harvey. The show was starting out with a battle between "Queens" (guys dressed a gals or flamboyantly dressed gals--in a way) and "Judgers" (headed by Neil Patrick Harris, a gay guy). Yes, they were going to beat people--the television audience--over the head with gay-type stuff and political crap. I quickly got off the ugliness! I got ready to see The Angry Red Planet, a low budget movie of some 60 years ago, when ugliness was not commonplace on television.
On Monday, June 25, 2024, WDIV-TV did a three-hour broadcast called The Ford Fireworks (but, really, the first hour was called The Ford Fireworks Countdown), starting at 8:00 p.m.. The so-called WDIV-TV talent was Devin Scillian, Kimberly Gill, Karen Drew, and Demond Fernandez, and, this year, the so-called talent presentation involved "street dancers." Hold it! Very early on in the program, I learned, such as from Devin Scillian, that "break dancing" was now a featured event for the Olympic, which were to be broadcast by, for example, NBC-TV through WDIV-TV for the Detroit area soon. Such crap it is to have "break dancing" as a real event for the Olympics. I do not care about the Olympics, since it has become political crap, such as that tied to the girls volleyball team for the U.S., which, in the recent past, has had crap women on the team, and on Sunday, June 31, 2024, a male named "Niki Hiltz" (running in the 1,500 meters women category at the U.S. trials) qualified for the Olympics, so I shall skip the Olympics broadcasts so that I can skip seeing a piece of shit known as Nikki Hiltz. It seems to me the runners (operators) of the Olympics (getting urging from U.S. people) are working to appease young freaks of the U.S. to get them to watch the Olympics. For the broadcast of The Ford Fireworks, the producers had four "street-dancing" teams compete, and it was lame stuff (at best), or it was poor entertainment, and the teams were The Flyest, The Freshest, MCSDA, and Styles Upon Styles. The winning team was Styles Upon Styles, which had three members, one of whom was a young gal (a black gal), who came off as a gutter gal (another inner-city slug of a gal), and the gal was someone whom I would never want to be with or meet. If she were to be part of a winning Olympic team, she, such as by talking like a stupid person or uneducated goof, would surely make the people of the United States of America look more like slugs, adding to crap already in minds of foreigners who have seen American athletes put down the United States of America at Olympic events. And the so-called stars of WDIV-TV for the fireworks broadcast were so happy with the street-dancing teams. Basically, all the contestants (from the four street-dancing teams) looked like crud, and they came off a no-talent crud, and most of the judges came of as more of that "gangsta" crowd (and I did not get the names of all the judges, since the presenting of the judges by WDIV-TV was crappy).
Last month, I heard that some news staffers of WDIV-TV were getting set to retire, and they were to be Bernie Smilovitz, Mara MacDonald, and Rod Meloni. In essence, on June 25, 2024, during a newscast with Devin Scillian, Kimberly Gill, and Kim Adams, Rod Meloni had his goodbye moment. Yes, now WDIV-TV can bring in another stupid young person to be on staff, lowering even more the thinking quality of the news group. On June 26, 2024, Mara MacDonald had her goodbye moment, appearing with Devin Scillian, Kimberly Gill, and Kim Adams on the six o'clock in the evening newscast for the day. To replace Mara MacDonald, the management will just find another always-angry (somewhat ugly and fat) gal to do hit pieces but not really important pieces--probably a young black gal. Incidentally, the goodbye segments were deemed to be "A Lasting Legacy" thing (as shown on the screen), though it was sort more like "A Purge Thing" for the news department, not like any before for a television station in Detroit that was not shutting down the news department completely. On June 27, 2024, Paula Tutman got to be highlighted in a goodbye segment with Devin Scillian, Kimberly Gill, and Kim Adams, and on July 1, 2024, she made her final reporter appearance. Oh, is not Devin Scillian at retirement time almost? Bernie Smilovitz did his last sportscast on July 1, 2024, in the 11:00 p.m. newscast, and the average thinking level at the station has become little affected (raised or lowered), since Bernie Smilovitz's job had only been related to sports--low-thought stuff--and he has not affected knowledge about political rottenness. With the four now gone, the station will save money on news talent (no-talent people, whose minds are filled with fluff--given the local television news industry is only concerned with fluff as a rule).
[Note: On Saturday, June 28, 2024, the website for WDIV-TV had this information showing in relation to Paula Tutman yet--"...She says she comes from a family of over-achievers. Her older brother is a law professor and professional environmentalist who takes on big-time corporate polluters in Maryland to protect tributaries and waterseds....". To me, that statement shows Paula Tutman has for a long time been associated with socialism or even communism. The statement is socialistic in nature and tone. I will never miss Paula Tutman, another rotten person in the news business, tied to a family of crap it seem. Remember--I have shown up other crappy people at WDIV-TV in the past, and WDIV-TV is linked to the rotten NBC-TV, especially the rotten NBC News. The webpage for Mara MacDonald at WDIV-TV (yet around on June 28, 2024) gives no hints at the nature of Mara MacDonald, but, over the years, I have deduced her political leanings are probably rotten--she is always like an angry feminist (which is socialistic in nature). And a good person has to wonder--Why the hell is Paula Tutman's brother even mentioned on a webpage that is supposed to be about Paula Tutman? It sounds like the station operators were working to sell crap to me!]On July 1, 2024, I was away from the Detroit area, and from July 1, 2024, to July 7, 2024, I did not see whether or not the local television stations of the Detroit area had people on the air--locally--such as on Spotlight on the News, Let it Rip!, or Flashpoint--who put down the ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court about presidential "immunity" of July 1, 2024. I report that the ruling simply upheld what had been going on for ages, and it was known by good people, if a U.S. president could be taken to court for decisions made while being the U.S. president, that would be bad, since any local-related or state-related prosecutor could hamstrung decisions by a U.S. president, and if a local-related ot state-related prosecutor were communistic or socialistic based, that person could help out enemies of the country, such as in war, by shutting down decisions that would hurt the enemies, and a person has to keep in mind that, in essence, a single decision by a U.S. president could get attacked in court by numerous prosecutors all over the country at the same time, leading to hundreds of cases all at once. If you saw anyone put down the decision by the U.S. Supreme Court (some justices of whom voted against the final ruling of the majority), then you saw rotten people. And if you saw people who said that now a U.S. president in the future, maybe like a Donald J. Trump, could now do anything at will and not be held liable, such as kill opponents, then you saw crappy people, since a U.S. president could be, for instance, impeached quickly. WDIV-TV and WXYZ-TV are in league with rotten nationally distributed news services--NBC News and ABC News--which have done rotten journalism in relation to Donald J. Trump, so I expect the news departments of WDIV-TV and WXYZ-TV do support--at least secretly--those who oppose the U.S. Supreme Court decision, especially since I have shown the rottenness in people at, for example, WDIV-TV of the recent past in various editions of Television History and Trivia. What did you see?
Announcement for the novice again (reworked in March 2019): To get useful television-delivered news or Internet-delivered news, try Breitbart News Network (the history of which goes back to 2007), WorldNetDaily.com, Newsmax TV (which was started up in 2014), CNS News (which is on the Internet and which was launched on June 16, 1998), and One America News Network (a.k.a. OAN), since the entities do not blindly support Barack Obama-type people (communists, socialists, progressives, liberals, and Shariaists), as do CNN, MSNBC, NBC-TV, CBS-TV, and ABC-TV (Note: To learn about bad journalism, you might tune in to CNN, MSNBC, NBC-TV, CBS-TV, and ABC-TV from time to time to see how they differ from the better places mentioned). I note that the Fox News Channel is evolving into a rotten channel, becoming like those that I have put down in this paragraph. If you are unclear of my intentions, I say in different words that you should boycott CNN, MSNBC, NBC-TV, CBS-TV, and ABC-TV and even now much of what is on the Fox News Channel and hope they lose more ratings and advertising revenues, since they are expendable, and it is time for you to find the guts to be mean and heartless and cancel them--since they are hurting you. In 2019, "The Drudge Report" was sold, and it should be treated as suspect for now. [Note: Everyone in the Democratic Party in the country is rotten, and the Republican Party establishment has shown itself to be socialistic and communistic within the last few years, and only a few of the rotten people tied to the Republican Party are U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush, and Chris Christie.]
[Note: Here is an example of Chris Christie's rottenness. On Sunday, February 6, 2022, Chris Christie was a guest on This Week with George Stephanopoulos (of ABC-TV), which had Martha Raddatz as the host, and Christ Christie pushed out crap. For example, Chris Christie said--"...And let's face it. Let's call it what it is. January 6 was a riot that was incited by Donald Trump...an effort to intimidate Mike Pence and the Congress into doing exactly what he said in his own words last week--overturn the election. And he's trying to do a cleanup on aisle one here...." and "...He actually told the truth by accident. He wanted the election to be overturned....". That is bullshit!]Actors come and go, and often they have short careers, and only few have long careers as well known faces, and often that can be tied to the physical nature of such people. For example, "beauties" can lose their "beauty" as they age, and child actors grow up and lose cuteness. In addition, actors can become passé because producers and writers and studio executives move on to other things to attract the public, such as other types of television series. Some actors end up with long careers, and a reason for that is their physical natures--genetics--that make them so unique in form that--even if not beautiful--they can go on and on in popularity. Boris Karloff was one such actor. I can say that he had a heyday from the 1920s to the 1960s, and Boris Karloff did network radio work, stage work, movie work, and television work, though in his early years, he was not a big name. In 1949, Boris Karloff was the featured performer in a television series for ABC-TV, and he was about 62 years of age then, and he had had some 40 years in the acting business. It was in about July 1949 when Boris Karloff signed up to do the series for ABC-TV for later in 1949, and it started out that Boris Karloff was set up to be in the series for 52 weeks, and the series was then being called Conflict (the working title), and he was under contact in relation to, for example, the packager of the series, which was Music Corporation of America (or MCA). The weekly series was being set up to present original mystery stories. The television series was unique, since it was actually being made to be a radio series and a television series at the same time. How it was being set up to work is the radio version would air on Wednesday evenings on ABC radio and the television series version would air live on Thursday evenings. Really, the radio version was put to record (or was recorded ahead of time). The scripts for the two versions (radio and television) were very similar. In the case of the television series, performers would have about two days worth of dry rehearsal, and they would be in rehearsal for some twelve hours to 17 hours. After that, a camera rehearsal would run about five hours or six hours. On Thursday, September 22, 1949, the weekly series made a debut on what were considered the East Coast network and Midwest Network for ABC-TV, and the start time for the 30-minute series was at 9:30 p.m., and now the series was called Starring Boris Karloff. Every week, Boris Karloff played a different main character in a new story, each of which was written by a freelancer, the first of whom was Robert Stephen Brode. The first story was called "The Five Guineas", and also appearing in the production was Mildred Natwick, and the director Alex Segal, who would be the director for all the episodes of the series (the previous television season, he had been the director for a series called Actor's Studio). Although the series was set to possibly run for 52 weeks--that is what Boris Karloff had been signed for as a maximum, with stipulations--the series only ran for 13 weeks. The problem is the series had no sponsor during the 13-week run, or it was a "sustainer" (a series with no main sponsor). I have an aside here. There was only so much advertising money available to run television series in the late 1940s and very early 1950s; radio was still a big medium for national advertisers, and radio programs were yet drawing a lot of advertising money. Basically, an episode of the television series cost $6,000.00. The last television broadcast for Boris Karloff's series was on December 15, 1949. By the way, about half way through the run of the series the name of the series was changed at bit to have Mystery Playhouse as the main title, and the start time for each Thursday was changed to 9:00 p.m.. The series was never kinescoped, since, for example, there was no sponsor to pay for the cost of making kinescopes of the series, as would happen in 1951 for Anna May Wong's series called (originally) The Gallery of Madame Liu-Tsong. When Starring Boris Karloff or Mystery Playhouse was stopped in December 1949, Boris Karloff went on vacation, and he was waiting to hear when production would begin again or waiting to hear if production would begin again--if ABC-TV could finally set up a sponsor for the series. No sponsor was found, and the series faded away. While doing research about the series, I found some that a script editor for the series was a "D. Susskind". That "D. Susskind" is David Susskind, who would from the 1960s to the 1980s have a nationally syndicated talk show called (mostly) The David Susskind Show. The casting for Boris Karloff's series was done by Maynard Morris. I report that that production location was WJZ-TV, New York City, New York. Some of the behind-the-scenes staffers of the series were Albert Heschong (who did sets), Audre (who did costumes), Cliff Cameron (who did music), and James Naughton (who did sets).
I regularly look a television listings in old newspapers, and I look at newspapers based all over the country, but, recently, I found an oddity in an edition of The Windsor Star. Take a look! It was in the addition for Saturday, January 8, 1972. For 11:30 p.m., it was reported that Channel 8, WJW-TV, Cleveland, Ohio, was going to air two movies in a row. The second movie (which was actually going to start on early January 9, 1972) was going to be Carry On TV, featuring Bob Monkhouse and Kenneth O'Connor. Well, when I saw the title of the movie, and I quickly remembered images from scenes of other "Carry On"-franchise movies, which were made in England, and the heyday for the movies was from the late 1950s to the 1970s. I thought I could maybe find a showing of the movie on a Detroit-area television station and use the movie in a Looking at the Movies segment. But I had a problem in mind. I had never heard of a movie called Carry On TV. I went on a tracking mission, and I found no evidence that a Carry On TV was ever made, and I was not surprised. The movie was called a "1963" movie, and, for one, I found no 1963 movie with "Carry On" tied to it. Hold it! Did you catch another problem? When I saw the television listing, I was put aback by "Kenneth O'Connor". For a number of "Carry On"-related films and two "Dentist" films (Dentist on the Job (1960) and Dentist in the Chair (1961)), there was a "Kenneth Connor" in the casts. Okay, now I get back to the second listed movie. Through tracking work, I found a storyline for Carry on TV, and when I saw the plot, I realized the movie had the plot of Dentist on the Job. I also discovered that Dentist on the Job was being called Get on with It! in about in the early 1960s for people in the U.S.. Here is what I think happened. To possibly draw television viewers better or in more numbers, the distributor of the movie made a change, and Dentist on the Job was given the title Carry On TV a number of years after the movie had been made to play on the success of the "Carry On" franchise, especially for television. By the way, over a twelve-year period or so, starting in late 1976, WGPR-TV, Channel 62, Detroit, aired a movie-showing series called Auction Movie, which was hosted by Fred Merle, and during the run of the series, Fred Merle did present several "Carry On"-type movies for viewers, such as Carry On Cabbie and Carry On Cowboy. Incidentally, I have recorded on file cards most of the movies that aired on Auction Movie for my files, and I would rather see almost all the movies aired on the program than almost all of the stuff on prime-time broadcast network television today.
Announcement: Recently, I have added some new documents to the collection of my documents at the website for The Hologlobe Press. One of the documents is entitled A Document that Dispels Myths and Nonsense of Science-Fiction Books, Movies, and Television Shows (A Logic Puzzle), which can be reached through this Myths link. Another document is And So You Think You're Going to the Moon, Mars, or the Stars..., which can be reached by using this Moon link. And yet another of the documents is entitled And the Stupid Women Shall Lead--and Lead Every Good Individual into Shit, Driven on by Communism, Feminism, and Defective Female Beliefs and Little-Girl Thinking, which can be reached through this Stupid Women link. And here are other documents--A Review of What Television Controlled by Socialists and Communists Worked to Sell as Truth in Relation to the U.S. President Donald J. Trump Impeachment (at Impeachment) and T.H.A.T. Special Edition--The First Helicopter-based Traffic Reporters on Radio for the Detroit area of Michigan (at Helicopter Traffic).
The Michigan Learning Channel showed up on January 4, 2021, and when it showed up, I knew it would be used to teach crap--at least at times--given it is Democratic Party-related mostly. Some crap did show up in front of me from the channel on Saturday, June 24, 2024, beginning at 9:00 p.m., and it was Kresge at 100 Celebration. Some of the people taking part in the program were Mayor of Detroit Mike Duggan and Thornetta Davis, and the program was a broadcast of an event that had taken place at the Detroit Institute of Arts on June 11, 2024. At one point, Rip Rapson did an interview segment with Barack Obama, a piece of shit of a man, and yet, Rip Rapson was so, so, so happy, and that shows the nature of Rip Rapson, and it is not good. Barack Obama often spoke in belabored ways, or Barack Obama worked to talk slowly and worked to make fluff sound like high-thought through emotional presentation. It was garbage thought! The program celebrated the Kresge Foundation. I know not if the program that I caught was the original broadcast premiere, but it may have been, given the time slot it had.
What qualifies for a "special" for television today is often crap, and here is another example. On Sunday, June 1, 2024, the episode of the series called TMZ Investigates was "JLo & Ben: Missed Warnings Signs". It made a big deal out of nothing, such as the second marriage of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, which has gone to crap. For one, Jennifer Lopez is a shallow and useless woman, who seems to be highly self-centered, and Ben Affleck is no genius. Democrats of today who are in the television business have dropped the standards for a "special" down to junk.
And I have "for-the-record" notes. On Saturday, June 15, 2024, the movie presentation on Svengoolie (of MeTV) was the movie called The Pit and the Pendulum (featuring Vincent Price and Barbara Steele). Svengoolie said that Barbara Steele later was an executive producer on a television production [of February 1983] called Herman Wouk's The Winds of War, a big-deal seven-part mini-series (a seven-part TV-movie). That statement put me in stall mode, since it seemed wrong, and it made no sense. I immediately pulled the cards for the mini-series from my files. No person was given an "executive producer" credit for the film. Dan Curtis--the driving force of the movie production team--got a "producer" listing and a "director" listing. Barbara Steele got an "associate producer" credit. On Sunday, July 7, 2024, at 6:30 p.m., another edition of Collector's Call showed up on MeTV, and, for one, the episode focused on models of cars, and at one point, the people on the program talked about Speed Racer (a cartoon series of some fifty years ago), which was a Japanese product that was syndicated in the United States of America. It seems the show showed up on Japanese television in 1967, and Wikipedia notes that it appeared on U.S. television sets at about the same time, and I say that that is not quite true. I did some tracking. Speed Racer showed up on television sets in the Chicago area of Illinois in September 1969 and on television sets in the Los Angeles area of California in December 1969. The series was originally designed as a weekly series, by the way. On Monday, September 11, 1972, the series showed up on Channel 50, WKBD-TV, Detroit, at 4:00 p.m., and the station ran the series on a Monday-through-Friday basis at 4:00 p.m..
Normally, I put in a Looking at the Movies feature in each edition of Television History and Trivia, but this edition of the publication lacks such a feature, since it has another feature. Between February 1948 and 2000, it was commonplace to find a lot of movies being shown on television--put out by the broadcast networks and put out by the local television stations, such as in Detroit. By the way, I am mostly focusing on Detroit television history. Between the fall 1961 and 2000, it was the heyday period for the broadcast networks to begin a movie presentation by showing an umbrella title. In the fall of 1961, the big push really began in earnest for the broadcast networks with NBC Saturday Night at the Movies. In Detroit between 1948 and 2000, dozens and dozens of umbrella titles were used by the television stations to announce that movies were being aired. For example, in the 1950s, some version of Movie Date was used, such as Saturday Night Movie Date by CKLW-TV, Channel 9, in the middle of the 1950s and Hollywood Movie Date by WJBK-TV, Channel 2, in the early 1950s. In the Detroit area, The Late Show was sometimes used, such as by WJBK-TV, Channel 2, in the late 1960s and early 1970s. With that general knowledge known to you, I can say that I have displaced Looking at the Movies with Late Night Date Movie Show for this publication. I am presenting a movie that a guy could watch with a gal on a date, and when the movie was over, the gal would not feel like crap. For the first presentation under my new umbrella title, I offer up a movie that--it seems--was never broadcast by a local television station in the Detroit area between 1946 and 1990, and, so far, I can find no evidence that it was ever offered in syndication around the country. In this edition of Television History and Trivia, I present Private Detective 62 (of 1933). I saw it in a colorized version recently on YouTube, and it features William Powell, Margaret Lindsey, Ruth Donnelly, Gordon Westcott, and Arthur Hohl. William Powell was known for playing, for example, Philo Vance and Nick Charles in movies in the good years for movies--the 1900s (especially between 1900 and 1980). So, set up a date-movie time, and watch Private Detective 62 under my Late Night Date Movie Show umbrella title.
Remember: The Prisoner with Patrick McGoohan was a television show that was produced across the pond and shown on CBS-TV in the late 1960s, and I urge you to find The Prisoner on DVD, maybe from a library, and watch it, and you should show it--all the episodes--to teenagers, or buy it as a present for teenagers.
Stay well!Vic
P.S.: You are urged to see my document entitled One of "The Rules of Man"--A Rule About Health Care that No Politician May Supersede with Law, which can be reached through this Rule1 link. I have deduced that all the Democrats and most Republicans support the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 and have no intention of killing it, though it should be killed for violating, for one, "The Rules of Man." For example, Republicans Jeb Bush and Chris Christie support the rotten law, and that is one reason that I define them as stupid men and not men who are good enough--in this day and age--to be the U.S. President. I note that the "mandate"--which forces everyone to buy government-approved health-care insurance--violates one of "The Rules of Man," and it is a rule that is attacked in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010. Anyone who supports the "mandate" is not a good enough person or a smart enough person to be the U.S. president--the mandate is "enslavism," and the "mandate" allows government people--who are often usually bad people, as history shows--decide what health care a person can get, and that is bad.
