Before I get into adult stuff, which is what most of this edition of Television History and Trivia has, I have to talk about some kiddie stuff. Recently, I came across an episode of a 1950s sci-fi-type television series or space-type series called Johnny Jupiter on YouTube, and on the same day, I looked up information about the series on Wikipedia to see what Wikipedia might have on the history of the series (in an overview), and what I saw put me aback. The article on Wikipedia noted that there was a version one of the series, and it aired live on Dumont (a nationally distributed broadcast television network) of the 1940s and early 1950s, and it actually aired weekly from roughly March 1953 to the middle of June 1953, and this version had Vaughn Taylor playing a character called Ernest P. Duckweather. That information is okay. The article also reported that there was a second version, and it was said that this version was aired by ABC-TV from roughly September 1953 to May 1954. That information is not okay. The series was never shown by ABC-TV. The second version of the series, which was made up of filmed half-hour episodes, was shown around the country in two ways at the same time; in one case, M&M (the candy company) was the sponsor of the series on some television stations around the country, and its ads were aired with the episodes, and the syndicating of the series with M&M ads was considered the "spot-booked" process, and in the other case, a syndicating company got some stations to air the series by buying the series for airplay. The second version of the series was made available to television stations around the country in September 1953. By the way, only one station in a city got the series, or only one station in what was called a "market" got to air the series. In Detroit, WWJ-TV, Channel 4, which was an affiliate of the NBC-TV network, began to run the series on November 29, 1953, and it ran weekly at noon on Sundays through late August 1954. By the way, I came across an article in the Detroit Free Press for October 3, 1954, on page 73, and it provided an answer as to why Johnny Jupiter was no longer being shown by WWJ-TV, and the article said that it was off because of lack of interest from viewers. That article seems to me to be a little off. In the early 1950s, it was commonplace for syndicated series to only be made for one season, because stations seemed to want new stuff all the time, and there were a lot of syndicated series available from a lot of distributors--it was a heyday of half-hour syndicated film series. On Friday, December 3, 1954, CKLW-TV, Channel 9, which was located across the Detroit River from Detroit, began to run the series--the second version of the series--in repeat form, and the station carried the series till August 1955. Next, Channel 9 carried the series--repeating the episodes again--from February 1956 to November 1956. That covers roughly the broadcasting history of the series in the Detroit area/the Windsor area. The second version of Johnny Jupiter had an actor named Wright King playing Ernest P. Duckweather, who had a television set that could be used to talk with characters on the planet Jupiter, and, of course, he could see them. On Jupiter, there was Johnny Jupiter, and he had a pal robot called Major Domo. There was a robot named Reject the Robot. The characters on Jupiter were puppets, and Gil Mack did the voices of the puppets. Besides Wright King as a regular human, the series had Patricia Peardon playing Katherine Frisby and Cliff Hall playing Horatio Frisby, and there were other performers. By the way, in the episode that I saw on YouTube that inspired me to write this section, I saw Ross Martin playing Professor Spiegelmacher. In the last half of the 1960s, Ross Martin was a regular performer in the popular television series called The Wild, Wild West, which is still popular today. Thirty-nine episodes of the second version of Johnny Jupiter were made, and that was for one season; today, a series might only have 13 episodes at first and then be given an order for more, which would be up to 13, and in a single season, a series would never have 39 episodes. The main production company for Johnny Jupiter (version two) was Kagran Corporation (of New York), and the program was made at Transfilm Inc. studios (in New York) and, today, a number of episodes are available on the Internet, such as on YouTube. The episode that I saw had M&M commercials, and the "pitches" were made by the characters from Johnny Jupiter. Johnny Jupiter was made in a time when shows were made for the sake of having fun and being fun.
Now, I move on to the adult stuff.
I add this section in relation to a magazine called the afaJournal, which I was given the other day by a friend, specifically to see an article on page eight, and the issue was for September 2021. On page eight, I saw an article entitled "Kids' TV ratings plummet with LGBTQ advocacy", and the article was made up of three paragraphs. The story noted that Nickelodeon's viewership has been dropping recently because of the LGBTQ stuff showing up in shows on the network. The final paragraph was--"...According to a study by Insider, an online news source, LGBTQ propaganda is running rampant in all children's TV. From 2017 to 2019, the number of LGBTQ characters increased by 222% on Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Disney and other kid TV networks.".
Chuck Lorre is about 68 years or age, and for several decades, Chuck Lorre has been involved in producing television programs or writing television programs for broadcast prime-time television, and examples of the shows to which he has been associated are Two & a Half Men, Dharma & Greg, Charles in Charge, Mom, and The Big Bang Theory. I say that Chuck Lorre can be deemed to be a supporter of socialism, and he may be a supporter of communism, but that second theme cannot be proven by me, but Chuck Lorre, for example, did hold a fund-raiser for Barack Hussein Obama (related to the U.S. presidency) in June 2015, and Barack Hussein Obama is a supporter of communism and others types of rotten government. Today, Chuck Lorre is one of the executive producers of United States of Al, which features Parker Young as Riley and Adhir Kalyan as Awalmir (or Al), and Awalmir was brought from Afghanistan to the United States of America by the former (as the story goes in the sitcom). On October 7, 2021, a new season for United States of Al began on CBS-TV, and the subject of the program was the pull out of U.S. troops and others from Afghanistan between roughly June 2021 and August 31, 2021. A bunch of people were given writing credits for the episode, and for the "story," they were Miriam Arghandwal, Reza Aslan, Hila Hamidi, Chase Millsap, Bobby Telatovich, and Mahyad Tousi, and for the "teleplay," they were Emily Ann Brandsetter, Maria Ferrari, Dave Goetsch, Ursula Taherian, Chuck Tatham, and Habib Zahori. What can a person--a viewer--make of the story? I am not sure, since I only saw the opening part and the closing part, knowing the real story of the pull out probably would not get told by people associated with Chuck Lorre and by Chuck Lorre. I understood (from the opening) the production crew wanted to pull some heartstrings, and the episode did do that, but--I expected--the episode would not show up the rottenness that Joseph Biden and his associates have in their minds, being socialists and communists and progressives and like people, and I note that the real pull out was done to hurt Americas and the United States of America and people in Afghanistan who supported the United States of America and hated the Taliban, who are another group of people who can fit in the category of people like communists and socialists and progressives and such. News reports offered up between August 1, 2021, and November 10, 2021, show that Americans were left behind, and the U.S. State Department was a hindrance to getting Americans out and getting them to other countries, and the U.S. left behind some $85-billion in military equipment in Afghanistan, and the Joseph Biden administration did more that was and is rotten. In a way, the production team--having a show about a former Afghanistan person (known informally as Al)--was trapped into saying at least something about the Afghanistan thing, and to keep people viewing the series, the production team had to say something, or viewers might wonder why nothing was said in the story lines this season, and I note the production team worked to promote the idea that they had a story about the pull out (such as in trade publications) so that the production team could get people to see the first episode and the other episodes to come. Now, for decades to come it seems, the first episode will be seen over and over again--in syndication--and the true story will not get highlighted and will get washed out more and more. In a way, the episode, though it worked to pull heartstrings, came off as icky, being a comedy show that was pushed out as something that was supposed to represent reality. And the characters hugged and cried.
Announcement for the novice again (reworked in March 2019): To get useful television-delivered news or Internet-delivered news, try Breitbart News Network (the history of which goes back to 2007), WorldNetDaily.com, Newsmax TV (which was started up in 2014), CNS News (which is on the Internet and which was launched on June 16, 1998), and One America News Network (a.k.a. OAN), since the entities do not blindly support Barack Obama-type people (communists, socialists, progressives, liberals, and Shariaists), as do CNN, MSNBC, NBC-TV, CBS-TV, and ABC-TV (Note: To learn about bad journalism, you might tune in to CNN, MSNBC, NBC-TV, CBS-TV, and ABC-TV from time to time to see how they differ from the better places mentioned). I note that Fox News Channel is evolving into a rotten channel, becoming like those that I have put down in this paragraph. If you are unclear of my intentions, I say in different words that you should boycott CNN, MSNBC, NBC-TV, CBS-TV, and ABC-TV and even now much of what is on the Fox News Channel and hope they lose more ratings and advertising revenues, since they are expendable, and it is time for you to find the guts to be mean and heartless and cancel them--since they are hurting you. In 2019, "The Drudge Report" was sold, and it should be treated as suspect for now. [Note: Everyone in the Democratic Party in the country is rotten, and the Republican Party establishment has shown itself to be socialistic and communistic within the last few years, and only a few of the rotten people tied to the Republican Party are U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush, and Chris Christie.]
On October 11, 2021, The Hill published a story on the Internet that should have been picked up by all news entities around the country. I bet the newscasters of the Detroit area, such as Devin "Cuba Lover" Scillian (of WDIV-TV) failed to cover it. The story was "Large retailers will be required to have 'gender neutral' toy sections under new California Law" [Schnell, Mitchell. "Large retailers will be required to have 'gender neutral' toy sections under new California Law." The Hill, 11 October 2021.]. Hold it! The California story is a national story! If local news can cover things, such as car crashes and missing-persons things, that take place in other states, which is news without much value to locals, then local news must cover this story of October 11, 2021. The story in The Hill noted that, on October 9, 2021, the governor of California--Gavin Christopher Newsom (a Democrat and a freak)--signed a bill into law that will require large companies (those with more than 500 employees within the state) to set aside space for a "gender neutral" toy section, and the law takes effect on January 1, 2024. That law is shit! That law is communism and such! What authority does a local or state government have to say where a business gets to display merchandise and how a business gets to display merchandise? If a state government or a local government or a federal government has that authority, then you have a place of enslavism, particularly a place that is under "fascism" (as a definition has it); "fascism" as I am thinking of it now has people owning businesses (private businesses) but the government tells them what to do. In California, will laws soon show up to say what can and cannot be sold? In other parts of the country, will such a crappy law show up? That law has to be killed off! A law about toys in California--that is what you get from freaks and defective minds! Oh, is the California government now going to waste money on working to categorize every toy, making a determination--under its rules, created by freaks--about what gender a toy is suited for?
Oh, I see Huel Perkins and Monica Gayle (news anchors) of Fox 2 News (WJKB-TV, Channel 2.1.) might retire soon, such as next year [Witsil, Frank. "Report: Fox 2 News anchor Huel Perkins to retire in 2022." Detroit Free Press, 8 October 2021, p. 11A.]. I say--"So what?". Their lives at work are used--for the most part--for giving fluff news, such as car crashes and fires at buildings and shootings in Detroit. If anyone should retire at Channel 2.1, it is Hilary Golston, whose delivery as a weekend anchor comes off all the time as an angry black woman, and her so-called hard-news delivery comes off a phoney and staged.
Back in September 1993, the cable network known as Nickelodeon began to run a television series for children called Legends of the Hidden Temple, and the series ran for what can be called three seasons, and on October 10, 2021, The CW network began to run another version of Legends of the Hidden Temple. The new series is a game show that will run weekly, and it comes from Stone & Company Entertainment and Nickelodeon Productions, and it is a series worth missing--especially, children should avoid it. I found the first episode to be icky, especially the contestants, and one set of contests was made up of Jo'el and Dyaman, and they were blacks, but I know not what they were, since they came off as freaks, being transvesttes or something or other that was not natural. The production team used the first episode to push crap on any children who might have tuned in to watch, thinking the series was fun for them. The series aired in a time slot that is supposed--supposed--to be okay for children. Crap on that! By the way, the show was followed at 9:00 p.m. (Detroit time) by a series called Killer Camp, and the first episode of that series came off as irritating at best, especially the character called Bobby, the camp counselor.
By the way, it appears to me that, today, every show has to have a gay guy or a lesbian, and I find that political crap.
WDIV-TV, Channel 4.1, was originally called WWJ-TV, Channel 4, and, today, WDIV-TV is an affiliate of NBC-TV (as was WWJ-TV, Channel 4), which is a communistic-type and socialistic-type network, especially in relation to news. On Tuesday, October 19, 2021, WDIV-TV offered up a news show of sorts, and it was called Mental Health Matters, which ran from 10:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.. The hosts were Devin "Cuba Lover" Scillian and Kimberly Gill, and Sandra Ali and Evrod Cassimy were the reporters, and some of the guests were Dr. Molly O'Shea, Dr. Rose Moten, Dwane Casey (of the Detroit Pistons), U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (a hard-line socialist of Michigan), and Stan Zimmerman (who seems to be a gay and is a writer of television shows for the broadcast networks at least). One segment was about racial-trauma healing. Where the hell is all the so-called racial trauma and where are the tons and tons of people suffering from racial trauma to make the topic worthwhile for a television special? That was a crap segment. Other segments were crap, such as one about the mental health of the players on the Detroit Pistons (though I did not pay much attention to the segment to know for sure it was about). Who cares about the players' mental health? The show had no real value for the public.
Oh, for a number of seasons, the Detroit Lions have been a defective professional football team. This season, there is a new coach--Dan Campbell. On Sunday, October 10, 2021, the Detroit Lions lost yet another game, and what television viewers soon got was Dan Campbell crying on camera in a press event. Around the same time, I got exposed to--on Channel 2.1, WJBK-TV--an advertisement with Dan Campbell, who pushes out the idea about the Lions--"We are driven by Detroit." The Detroit Lions lost the game of October 17, 2021, and the Detroit Lions lost the game of October 24, 2021, and the Detroit Lions lost the game of October 31, 2021, and that put the Lions at 0 and 8. A person has to remember Detroit went into bankruptcy a few years ago, and some 40 percent of children (at least) cannot read at their required level, and many adults in Detroit are functionally illiterate, and many children live in one-parent homes. And the Detroit Lions, who are driven by Detroit, have a crying Dan Campbell.
Since the 1960s, one of the most again-and-again watched television series of the 1960s has been The Munsters, which featured Fred Gwynne as Herman Munster, and the series is yet run on Cozi TV today, and the series was followed by a related television series and, for example, a made-for-TV movie called Here Come the Munsters (of 1995). On October 18, 2021, an article from Variety (an entertainment trade magazine) was published on the Internet called "'The Munsters' First Look: Rob Zombie Shares the Cast in Costume in Front of the Iconic Mansion". I saw the photograph with the article, and it showed Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman Munster, Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily Munster, and Dan Roebuck as Grandpa Munster. I hope the Rob Zombie thing dies! The new cast looks ugly, unlike the original cast, which came off a happy and likeable. The producers and such today mostly take--steal--from the past and create ugliness and crap. Here I have to note that Edward Herrmann did a super acting job in Here Come the Munsters playing Herman Munster, and, maybe, it could be called one of the best acting performances in television history--he made Herman like the Herman of The Munsters. Go watch Here Come the Munsters. And forget about whatever Rob Zombie, who looks like a freak, pushes out in the future.

On October 6, 2021, another season of Detroit Performs showed up on WTVS-TV, Channel 56.1, which is a public television station associated with the PBS network, and, officially, this is the eleventh season the series (sort of), and the series is now actually called Detroit Performs: Live from Marygrove (Marygrove College, Detroit, a college that is passé, having closed in December 2019). The host of the series is a black woman named Satori Shakoor, who is instrumental in keeping an entity called "The Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers" running in the Detroit area. It looks as if each episode will focus on two performers, and the performers perform at the Marygrove Theatre, and there are ten episodes scheduled for this season. Detroit Performs: Live from Marygrove is a reformatted Detroit Performs, so I should call this season the first season for the series.
Oh, since I grew up decades ago, I have not been a fan to any sports team or sports person, but I do watch some sports on television; when I was a teenager in the 1960s, it was sort of fun supporting the Detroit Tigers (and I even went to "ball day" in 1968, during which baseballs were handed out to some people for free, and I still have the ball). Today, many sports figures are crap, and that is especially true of baseball players and football players! On October 21, 2021, I saw something on television from the NFL that shows the managers of the NFL are shit. It was a commercial of sorts. Basically, the commercial was a series of statements, made one line at a time. The first thing was--"Football is gay.". The next thing was--"Football is lesbian.". And it went on. In the end, the commercial pushed out "Football is for everyone.". Such shit it all was!
In 1955, CKLW-TV had, for example, a Saturday movie presentation sponsored by Benajmin Appliance and Furs, and the show was called Benjamin's Saturday Night Movie Date or simply Saturday Night Movie Date. The movie presented on Saturday, October 8, 1955, beginning at 11:10 p.m., is the movie offered up in the Looking at the Movies segment for this month. The movie is Women in the Night, and it takes place in a German officers' club in Shanghai, China, around the time of the second A-bomb attack on Japan near the very end of World War II (in 1945); in the story, Germany was already beaten by the Allies. Basically, the movie focused on some women who were prisoners of the Germans, and also, in essence, the Japanese, who were working to get the plans for a Cosmic Death Ray from the Germans. One thing I found not so good about the movie is that the movie had one American gal, one British gal, one Australian girl, one French gal, one Chinese gal, one Mexican gal, et cetera, and that was a little too fakey for me. But so it goes. Oh, the movie was a little slow. Overall, Women in the Night, which was released in 1948, is a movie for adults and not children, and it was designed by the makers to show off crimes against women during World War II, and the makers were hoping such actions would not happen again, but, of course, I know about the rottenness of the supporters Sharia (Islamic law) and the rottenness of the Taliban of today. Some of the performers in this Republic Picture movie are Tala Birell, William Henry, Richard Loo, Virginia Christie, Phillip Ahn, Benson Fong, and Frances Chung, and the performers that I was already well aware of before I recently saw the movie were Richard Loo, Phillip Ahn, and Benson Fong. Frances Chung, playing Li Ling, is cute. Based on the feel of the movie, I will say that it is a movie to see very late in the day--when it is dark out--or late at night. Just let it run. See what you think of Women in the Night, which is the featured film for Looking at the Movies for this month.
And I have this special little section. On October 27, 2021, Jeff Dunham (a well-known ventriloquist) posted a video called "DO NOT WATCH THIS HOLLOWEEN VIDEO! | Jeff Dunham" on YouTube, and it runs thirteen minutes and fifteen seconds. It features such "dummies" (puppets, in essence) as Peanut, Walter, Achmed, Bubba J, and URL. In the video, a very, very famous dummy of the Detroit area shows up in sort of a cameo. In many shots of Peanut, "Skinney Dugan" (who is informally known as "Skinny Dugan") can be seen on a shelf--the lower shelf on the left side of the screen and on the right end of the group of dummies shown. To learn about Skinney Dugan, see my document called Here, I Tie a Bunch of Dummies Together, which can be reached through this Dummies link.
Remember: The Prisoner with Patrick McGoohan was a television show that was produced across the pond and shown on CBS-TV in the late 1960s, and I urge you to find The Prisoner on DVD, maybe from a library, and watch it, and you should show it--all the episodes--to teenagers, or buy it as a present for teenagers.
Stay well!Vic
P.S.: You are urged to see my document entitled One of "The Rules of Man"--A Rule About Health Care that No Politician May Supersede with Law, which can be reached through this Rule1 link. I have deduced that all the Democrats and most Republicans support the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 and have no intention of killing it, though it should be killed for violating, for one, "The Rules of Man." For example, Republicans Jeb Bush and Chris Christie support the rotten law, and that is one reason that I define them as stupid men and not men who are good enough--in this day and age--to be the U.S. President. I note that the "mandate"--which forces everyone to buy government-approved health-care insurance--violates one of "The Rules of Man," and it is a rule that is attacked in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010. Anyone who supports the "mandate" is not a good enough person or a smart enough person to be the U.S. president--the mandate is "enslavism," and the "mandate" allows government people--who are often usually bad people, as history shows--decide what health care a person can get, and that is bad.
