How the Electric Car will
Kill off the Used-Car Marketplace

Here is a short document. Over the last forty-plus years, I have run cars a long time, because I have been able to do almost repairs. It has saved money, and, each time a repair was made, I knew the work was done right, and it was exercise for me. I have run some vehicles more than twenty years. I hate the process of changing vehicles, since it is such a waste of time. Other people keep their cars a long time, such as till the cars reach, for instance, 250,000 miles. Today, electric cars are being pushed in the marketplace heavily. What garbage electric cars will be for families and the country in the long run. Today, a family can have several vehicles so that dad and mom and children can get to places, such as schools or colleges and workplaces, and it means that some people in the family run in hand-me-down vehicles or used vehicles, which might cost only from $500.00 or $1,000.00 and which can do well for years. Today, the cost of changing a battery system in an electric car costs from $10,000.00 to $17,000.00, and it is said in the near future that the price could go down in half. The battery systems of electric cars are rated to last about 100,000 miles. Vehicles that come to the market used will often have from 30,000 miles to 180,000 miles use on them. If a family needs several cars, the cost for each used electric car could be crappy in the future, because it is very likely each car will have to have a battery system changed immediately or soon--at well above $6,000.00--and so a used car could cost thousands above what it costs to get a regular car today. If a family, such as one in an inner city, would do well by having three cars, having to go to electric used cars could pull some $12,000 or more out of the family budget. There is an alternative. People could travel less or be forced to travel less. With the prices of used electric cars being way up above regular cars (such as gasoline-powered cars), more and more families will probably have to forgo getting more than one car. Of course, if a family cuts back on the numbers of cars held and still cannot cut back on miles needed to be traveled, the vehicle or vehicles that are owned will wear out sooner or need more repairs. There is no way in which public transportation can get people everywhere they want to go in large metropolitan areas, which continue to get bigger every day, or a state, and there is no way public transportation systems can cover well all the places people need and want to go, and it will get harder for such systems to over all the places in the future because of growth and expansion. When people cannot afford to run several electric cars, fewer cars will be sold in the used-car marketplace, and that means states will get less in taxes related to license fees and such. By the way, electric cars will still have other systems that might have to be replaced when the cars are in the used-car status, such as brake lines and brakes and whatever, and so other costs still have to be kept in mind. Hold it! In Michigan, the price of a license is related to the original cost of the vehicle and not the cost that was paid for the vehicle as a used vehicle. Basically, used cars--or "pre-owned" cars--are going get expensive for many people to have because the electric cars will not be like regular cars, which can more easily be repaired and do not have $6,000.00-plus (or $10,000.00-plus) battery system costs looming all the time. Heck! For little money--less than $6,000.00--a person can find a regular used car that will run for years, and the person would not have to worry about having a $6,000.00-plus shock in the near future. And government people--the communists and socialists and progressives and other idiots and freaks, all of whom are pushing the crap about global warming--want to get everybody in electric cars in a few years!
